Day 106 and when I woke up Luke had already got up and gone to the beach, and soon after the rest of us got up and went down. I was only their briefly as I had a little bit of a red back! Not to bad though, so I just went on the net and uploaded some photos instead. In fact, when the others came back from the beach they were saying it was "To Hot!" After the internet Helen and I went and sat in the shaded area of the beer garden near the hammocks and read for a while. Luke was Sleeping in a hammock at this point and Burns was still in bed having a designated 'Lazy Day'. About lunchtime we headed into town where instead of lunch we all got Ice cream and bought postcards. Burns was on the lookout for some new swimming shorts and to the girls horror, was keen to buy a loud and very shockingly bright pair. Some of the ones he was pondering were horrific. On our way round town we popped into Wicked Travel to use their free internet and check our bus and hostel bookings. After about 30 mins of this, we headed into a surf shop next door where I alerted Burns to a quite stunning pair of illuminous yellow board shorts. His eyes lit up instantly, and the price tag made things even better as they were in the sale! He promptly bought them, much to the horror of the girls. After this we all split up and wandered round town and met up at the hostel where we spent the rest of the day in the sun, or lying in the shade reading. About 730 me and Helen headed out for a meal together for our 2 year anneversiary, while the others decided to cook home made curry! This kind of gave us a nudge in the way of what restaurant to go to, so we ended up in a Curry House. Only after we ordered some wine did we realise we could have brought our own drink. The food was excellent with massive portions. After a short walk around the Bay we headed back to the room where the others were playing Pictionary, and soon after we all headed to bed by 12 as we were heading to Surfers Paradise in the morning.
Day 107 and we were all up and finishing packing before 9am. We checked out by 10 and got a free shuttle bus to the greyhound stop where we got on the bus for a short trip north. The bus driver, for some unknown reason decided to put Princess Diaries 2 the movie on the screen and turned the volume up very loud. I had to therefore watch numerous family guy episodes on my ipod to drown out the noise. By 12, or what would be 11, we reached Queensland where we were told to turn our watches back an hour due to daylight saving. Once we got to Surfers Paradise we were amazed as to how built up the area was, with loads of skyscrapers and bars which made it look like Tenerife. We got picked up by a car limo and driven about 500 yards down the road to the hostel. The rooms were ok, the girls had a seperate area, while us 3 lads slept in the kitchen, literally. After unpacking, we walked to Woolies and through town for a bit but couldn't last to long as it was so hot. Back at the hostel us lads went and sat by the pool and read while the girls relaxed upstairs. I then went for a nap and when I awoke the others were playing cards with some other people outside so I joined them. We introduced P&A to them and also played spoons. At about 7 we went to the pool for a BBQ with the rest of the hostel where there was an all you can eat sausage fest! Luke had 7 - crazy. There was also a movie on the big screen, Meet the Fockers. After the food and ovie we got changed and went out with about 50 others to a bar called 'The Bedroom'. The streets were rammed with drunk backpackers and tourists which added to the Tenerife feel. After a few drinks in the Bedroom we headed home, not before Laura and Burns had a kebab.
Day 108 and it was overcast, for the 2nd day running. I was awoken at 8 by someone doing the washing up. After breakfast and sorting out a wash we headed for town to see if there was anything to do other than drink in a pub. There wasn't. We all bought postcards, and then bought dinner, Sweet and Sour Lamb with Rice. On the way back to the hostel I phoned my Dads old work friend Ken Stafford who lived about 30 mins outside Surfers. He suggested we go out for a meal and catch up. After agreeing to meet at the Marriott Hotel at 630, I headed down about 615. As I waited it dawned on me that, I had never seen Ken before, he had never seen me, I didn't have a phone and didnt know his mobile number. By 645 I went into reception and asked if this was the only Marriott in Surfers. It wasn't. I was preparing to walk 15 mins down the road to the other hotel when on the way out I saw a Silver Mitsubishi and 2 people looking for someone. Thankfully it was Ken and his wife Val, so I got in and we drove to their town, Currumbin Waters. I could have easily missed them and been walking around looking for them all night. We had a nice Indian meal, and Ken brought his own alcohol so I had a couple of beers. After a long chat of getting to know them, we headed to their house which was lovely and situated with the back garden leading to a canal. About 1030 Ken dropped me back at the hostel where the others were watching a movie. After several hours dossing Burns and I headed outside to play cards while the others went to sleep. It was a football night so we had to stay up for a fair few hours. We headed into town about 130am and it was still packed with drunks. The place we were to watch the game was Charlies, a 24/7 cafe which had a few other people there for the footy and the odd drunk coming in for food. After 4 hours of footy we headed back about 6am in day light with drunks still staggering about.
Day 109 and after 4 hours sleep I was up and about but found Helen, Luke and Laura had gone to the beach even though it was overcast. Burns was sleeping heavily and so I decided to stay in and read and sort some photos out. I also wrote some postcards. When the others got back about 1 we went into the pool where Helen fell in fully clothed when playing catch with Coops. They were throwing the ball across the pool while standing on the edge and she fell when she couldn't reach Coops's throw. It was well funny, but she somehow managed not to get her hair wet which was good. We all went and had naps as no one was in the mood to do anything. Dinner was to be Pasta Pesto which turned out awesome, and we followed that by Pancakes! After a brief stint on the internet we all sat about the kitchen just having a general chat. For most of the trip we have heard numerous stories regarding 'The Coopers' in which Laura tells us about some quirky or odd thing that goes on in their family. Tonight it was about how Sarah hides Pint glasses around the house because her Dad hates it when she leaves a tiny bit of drink in the bottom. Coops could barely tell the story as she was laughing so much. We have all agreed that we would love to see them in some TV documentary like The Osbournes. Me and Helen played some cards and then hit the hay as we were leaving for Brisbane in the morning.
Day 110 and we had to be up and about by 830 and got to our greyhound bus by 920. One of the beers had cracked in the cool bag which was a bit of a bummer as the food smelled of beer. We arrived in Brizzy at 1045 and played Keepy Ups and ate crackers while waiting for our pickup for the Bunk Backpackers. AT the hostel we couldnt check in straight away so had to wander around the town for an hour where we ate hot chips. About 1pm we checked in and got into our 8 bed dorm which was really well kept, but had squeaky beds which are well annoying. After check in we went to Peter Pans travel agency where we used their free internet to look at visiting Australia Zoo. After this we walked to town, down Queen street to the main shopping plaza. Burns and I checked out the casino but weren't allowed in with our dress code, so just inquired. Dinner was bought from Woolies and tonight it would be beef stir fry. After dinner we played drinking scrabble in the bar and started drinking $10 jugs of VB which went down a treat. The girls even got in on the act by drinking snakebite, but with Raspberry and Cider. They were drunk after 2 glasses. We liked this bar because the beer was cheap and we could wear flip flops and shorts. About 11pm the girls were drunk so headed to bed along with Luke who having slept all day got drunk in a few hours and passed out. Burns and I stayed on drinking and played Pool and then left about 1am to get a kebab. Burns was pretty wasted and could barely walk straight, but seemed ok to me. As we got to the hostel Burns got chatting to some randoms who were intrigued by his Kebab while I went up to bed and set an alarm for 5am as Liverpool were playing at 6am.
