Spent a few days hanging out and exploring around Lovina. Went to an awesome hotspring that was full of locals. The water was piped in via the mouths of dragon statues... very cool.
I'd pretty much seen all I wanted on Bali, so a few days ago I decided to hop on a ferry over to Java.
I went straight to Bromo, another small village up hight at over 2000 meters on a volcano. I haven't written anything in the blog because it's totally off the grid - no internet at all up there. It was very cool, though. I climbed Bromo, which is the steaming peak in the photos - it's very active ;-) I also climbed Batok which is the very conical peak right beside it.
The next night, I got up at 3am and climbed the outer rim of the crater that encircles them all all took some sunrise photos. Met a Spanish guy halfway up fumbling around in the pitch black - he somehow thought he could find the way through the forest without a light.... ha! He's lucky I showed up, I'd say.
Met 3 other travelers staying up in Bromo, so decided to just take a day and rest, doing nothing up there after returning from the 3am trip. Was nice just to hang out all day as it was a nice village and a little cooler up there.
It's pretty much 30 degrees, day in and day out down low. I did get caught in one downpour while on a motorbike up in the mountains out of Lovina. When I got back down to the coast, it was nice again and hadn't even rained down there.
Anyhow, I'm now in Malang. It's a pretty big place. Java is much less touristy than Bali and a fair bit "harder". I like it quite a bit so far. Haven't seen one tourist in Malang yet since arriving. Should be able to write more blogs as I'll be in larger places now...
