What a whirlwind first day in Paris! First of all this blog isn't working very well so forgive me for the technical problems and I hope it is posting correctly.
So on to the recap of the day...
I met some great people on plane who lived in France long ago who helped me get to hotel we shared a van ride saved me a lot of money! They were very nice. So far I've met a lot of really nice people from all over the world even some nice Parisians. So different than last time. Its almost strange how nice they are.
My day started out at the Eiffel Tower, of course there is nothing like standing at the base of that beautiful structure. It just speaks to me. Magnifique! I met a younger girl from Australia here and we walked up to the first floor. I lagged behind a bit, okay a lot, but if you've ever walked up those stairs you know it's a killer! My kegs were jello but it was worth every step. I sat and had a warm Coke on Level 1 and soaked in the views. Aah, Paris!
Afterwards I took a taxi boat down the Seine. It was so cool. It's a great way to see the city. I took it all the way down to Notre Dame to explore.
The day was gorgeous and hot! Sky was so blue! I went into Notre Dame and lit a candle. That building is mysterious inside. It's beautiful but dark. There is just something about it that draws you into it though.
Afterwards I walked to St Chappels church. Now THAT is a hidden gem. It is one if my favorite Parisian spots. It's a must see on a trip. Floor to ceiling stained glass just gorgeous inside and the outside is so neat with the gargoyles protecting the outside.
I spent my evening walking around the narrow streets near St. Michel's. I love the charm of the buildings and streets, which are too narrow for cars. I had a great glass if wine at an outside bistro overlooking the Seine and Notre Dame. Parisians know how to live. They actually LIVE life everyday. They enjoy the little things like wine, food, the streets of Paris and each other. There's just something about it that makes you want to be Parisian.
I topped off my day with a boat ride back down the seine to the Eiffel Tower. It was 10pm and just hitting dusk. The tower was lit and it was beautiful. There were literally thousands of people in the park just enjoying the night and the view. At 10pm the tower started to sparkle. God, I can't tell you the feeling you get when you catch a glimpse of it. It's breathtaking.
It was too late for dinner by the time I got back so I walked to the local deli where I met a 'charming' Frenchman (or so I'm told) who worked behind the counter. He offered to show me the city. I respectfully declined and was surprised by his demeanor--seemed more Italian than French.
Today it's off north to explore the Champs Élysées. I'm just excited because I can finally pronounce it thanks to hours of practice-thanks Kris!
Until later...

Meredith Cool! We thought the people in France were all soooo nice and helpful and not rude at all. Not like the stereotypes you hear about. Wonderful!
Kristin Awww, thanks for giving me props on the french speak. I may be able to say the words, but you've seen the places...twice! Someday, girl, I'll connect the dots. Sounds like you're having an amazing time. Of course that charming man wanted to show you the city, you're a hot mama, alone, in Paris!
