Hi all,
Well the first tour is all over now but all of the people on the tour are still in Rio so I'm not left all alone. Yesterday when I arrived I had a bit of a panic as we didnt have the usual walk around with the tour leader so I felt like a child without her mother and didnt have my bearings at all so stayed in the hotel room for the afternoon.
Today luckily I am armed with a map and have got my bearings so feel much more prepared for Rio. This morning I could hardly contain my excitement because I could finally go and see Christ the Redeemer - a picture I have waited for for so long. We got the bus to the little train station at the bottom and then got the train all the way up the mountain to the top. It took about 20 minutes. Once at the top, I finally got to see the statue and was so happy. However, it was so bloody cold and windy up there we only stayed about 20 minutes but I did get my picture so I am pleased - all be it without blue skies.
After that we got the bus back to the stop nearest our hotel and I went Havianna's shopping. The shop I decided to go to had so many flip flops I was in there for ages just trying to make a decision on them. I think I'm going to go there again tomorrow. Then we went to Copacabana beach but it looked nothing like the picture above because the weather isn't great. Our tour leader told us that apparently on a busy day the beach is split into 10. Beaches 1-4 are for gays and lesbians and to see the beautiful people you have to sit on Beaches 8-10. I don't know what the beaches inbetween are or if you get relegated if you are deemed not beautiful enough - ha!
This evening we were meant to be going to a football match but that is not happening now so a couple of the girls have rented an apartment for the week they are here so I think we are heading there to cook dinner which will be nice - I'm bored of restaurant food which by the way has got better since I've been in Brazil. Although yesterday at an all you can eat pizza place I did commit an awful sin and ate a slice of chocolate pizza and tried banana pizza - in my defence i'm only in Brazil once and the chocolate pizza was amazing. The banana I took one bite of and couldn't eat anymore.
Tomorrow, I'm going to go on a city tour and visit Sugar Loaf Mountain and then I'm hoping in the afternoon I can meet up with Liz (my old room mate) who is now staying in Ipanema and we can chill out there either way I will try and meet up with her as it is the last time I will probably see her before I leave.
So just in case I don't get to do a mini evaluation of my tour before I get to USA here goes now:
1. Buenos Aires - amazing. I love the city so much. Highlights there were definately Recoletta Cerematory, the tango show at Cafe Tortoni and just having the freedom to feel I could safely get around the city.
2. Uruguay - we will tag all under one. Don't hassle yourself with going here it could have easily been missed out and I wouldnt have been disappointed.
3. Iguassu Falls - amazing. I would have liked better weather but the sheer size of the Falls was amazing.
4. Paraty - I like Paraty for so many reasons. As a group we had a couple of really funny nights out here but the town was so pretty and felt so safe.
5. Ilha Grande - sun, sea and sand what more can I say I was happy.
6. Rio - dream come true!
Brazil has definately been my favourite country and I would love to come back it is just so beautiful.
Will update again soon,
Much love,
P.xxx.Â
