Having stumbled back home around 6, we had a few hours sleep before it was time to get up again and explore buenos aires by day! First things first though, Argentinian steak had to be sampled! We ate at a small little authentic restaurant called la Dorita, and the steak spoke for itself. Words cannot describe how amazing it was, the best 600g of beef I've ever had. Jess decided to try Sorrentinos, a local dish, which I might try next time.
Following lunch/breakfast, we tackled through the food coma and headed to La Recoleta cemetery. Yes, having a graveyard as a tourist attraction may sound alittle grim, but it is a huge necropolis like I've never seen before. A maze of mausoleums of famous faces from argentinian history, from previous presidents, to war heroes, famous rich families and even a couple of freemasons! The main attraction though was Eva Perons resting place. Evita, as she is known by the people here is seen almost as a saint it seems, and her mausoleum is covered in flowers placed by the people that come to visit her.
Though the cemetery wasn't all peaches and cream, there was also a famous grave of one girl who was accidentally buried alive! Oops!
After the cemetery we visited a park nearby where there was a live street music performance! It was pretty cool, all the kids were given tambourines and small guitars and joined in the festivities!
Following that, we visited la Boca, the working class district from which tango originates from! The main street was pretty cool, with live street tango performances and a general buzz!
In the early hours of the morning we were catching our next flight so rather than sleeping for a measly 2 hours or so, we decided to go to the cinema! And then we were off!
