Thursday 26th AprilJournal brought to you by the Pizza Eating Legend (Sophie)This morning I went to the bathroom and ran into Elvis outside our front door - it was quite a scary experience. I ran into the room and everyone had a peek from the safety of the hut. Chris kept a safe distance away - he was truly terrified. WIMP! We had our free breakfast of baked beans or egg on toast and then went on a faburlous walk along the beach with Freya and Stef and Chris. Cape Tribulation is possibly the prettiest place we have visited in Australia. There were creeks running along the beach and trees growing through the sand and mangrove swamps and rock pools. There was the oldest rainforest in the world on our one side and the glistening sea on our other. Very nice. After having a mass game of Uno between us five and a couple called Sam and Charlotte (who were lovely) we caught the bus back to Cairns. On the way we went to a lookout over the mountains and to the Mossman Gorge where we could swim in the river. Bit nippy I must say. Brad (our driver) had told us not to swim in a certain bit but when he turned up we were all swimming in it by mistake! Some of the guys and myself tried to swim through this rapid but only one of us managed it. I was distraught I didn't manage it as you know how competitive I am... Our last stop was Port Douglas where we all bought ice cream from a shop that had 48 different flavours. I had mint choc chip as usual. Tami had some sort of disgusting concoction. However the funniest thing of all of this was when we popped into the supermarket and saw this pampered white poodle with a foul pink bow tied in her silly hair yapping around outside. The owner ( a 50 year old mad woman) was queuing up next to us and called over in a ridiculously squeaky voice; "It's alright Sparkles, Mummy's here". Hilarious. As it was tecnically our last night in Australia we had to go out and have pizza. Sam and Charlotte joined us for this bit and there was a funny moment when we were all deciding what to eat and Sam was telling Charlotte not to order a medium pizza because she wouldn't eat it all. When the waitress came over Charlotte said in a really defiant voice "a LARGE pizza, please". Sam's face was a right picture. In the end she didn't even eat the equivalent of a small. Needless to say I polished off my large in record time. Sam was very impressed. I really am a legend. We went to the pub afterwards and met up with James and Louise (from Fraser Island) and the Irish lads. It was a brilliant night and a great way to spend our last proper night in this awesome country. I have had a terrific time in Oz and met some amazing people. I will be sad to leave the heat! I hope you are all still well at home and not missing us too much! Not long to go Mother then your "baby" will be home hehe. Love to everyone! xxx
