Sophie And Tami Were Here
Saturday 5th May
Journal entry brought to you by Tami (who is very very VERY tired)
Woke up to get the bus this morning at 7 O'Clock, so very tired that I could barely stand up. I was actually exhausted, more so than I have been at any other time in this trip. We were introduced to our driver, Buzz, and then taken to Mount Eden (an inactive volcano overlooking Auckland) so we could say goodbye to the city. Sophie and I got chatting to a couple of guys called Ben and Rob who seemed wicked, Rob had pretty much done this route before and was full of tips of things to try and places to avoid. Ben, like us, was on this for the first time, and, like us, seemed keen to try everything as well. We also met two girls called Sorrel and Claire, who were awesome, and two Scottish guys called Colm and Stephen.
We then popped into the Kiwi office to pick up booklets and timetables, then began our journey south. Woot!
We stopped in Thames for lunch, and went to the Pak N' Save with Rob and Ben, and ate cheese and vegimite sarnies while overlooking the sea, it was gorgeous. We then drove onto Cathedral Cove, which was really pretty but was just a beach. There was, however, a dead possum holding a stick, which captivated our attention for a good five minutes. Poor thing. We then drove on to Hot Water Beach, where you can rent shovels and dig holes in the sand. If you're at the right time with regards to tides, the geothermal activity in the area means that the water is boiling hot, and you can have a spa like experience. We were lazy and just found some holes that other people had dug, and stood in those for a while. They were really very hot actually, I burnt the side of my foot on a stray trickle of water (owww). We then saw Megan and Emma who we'd room shared with in Paihia, which was pretty cool, but we only had a quick catch up then it was back on the bus to go to Mercury Bay, or Whitianga, as it is called in Maori. When we got there, Sophie and I went to the supermarket (with a couple of Danish guys from our bus, we found out that it was one of them's birthday, so we sang to him, I think he was scared). We then seriously overcooked food, even by my standards, and played darts with Stephen, Colm and Claire. I won!! Wooohooo!! I then swapped 'Not A Penny More, Not A Penny Less' for yet another Archer from the communal bookshelf, and then rang home for a quick chat. Then watched 'Not Another Teen Movie' with most of the people from the bus. Then we both went to bed, we were room sharing with Karen and Annabelle, which was pretty cool! Kiwi Experience is wicked!
