Looks our blog is slowly starting to catch up to our current position :D
After titicaca the GAP group set the course for the city of La Paz. After a lengthy bus ride we made a stop looking over the city. 2 million people live in a "bowl" that is the main core of the city, with another 1.5 million living on the altiplano over the city. The main revenues in the city is public transportation (!) and selling crap in the streets.
Cecilie and me felt a bit cramped in this massive city with people milling around you all the time. Luckily the street vendors rarely bother you, so it is not so pressing as it might have been. The stay in La Paz was a short and sweet with a few dinners and some well appreciated time to relax. The last day in La Paz there was a festival for the street vendors. We expected a big party, but (sadly) the event passed without much ado. Instead we had some beers at Hard Rock Cafè.
Since we had a day to relax, the Norwegians went to the local gym to pump iron. This was a quite uniqe experience. For one, the gym was plastered with posters of Schwarzi in His prime and the equipment was probably from the same age. Secondly, La Paz is a city is at 4000 meter above sea level. I was still wheezing from the last push or pull when it was my time to do the aptly chosen "Arnold Pull". After the workout we had freshly made protein shake made from soy milk, bananas and protein powder. De-lish!
In La Paz the GAP tour sadly ended and we had a last dinner before parting our separate ways, only to bump into eachother the next day. "Operation Mustache Bonanza" was a great success with a variety of styles including Eiriks "Friendly handlebars", Richies "El Classico" and my "drooping Mexican". Beside all this awesome facial hair, Ed`s pencil-thin mustache was really something to behold :D
Hats off for the hectic, but very exciting tour we had with GAP and a big thanks to the people that made it the trip it was!!
Next stop Salar de Uyuni! Stay tuned for bus rides where the dirver had to spray alcohol on the windshield to keep it from frosting over, poorly dressed brits and a stunning haircut with an energetic guide attached to it.
