Down Under!
Hey again!!!
We have nothing to do today so decided an update of the website is very over due! This is the second journal entry we have put in today so don't forget to read the one previous (Mnt Gambia) first! Hope you guys are all doing great at home, we both miss you all so much and can't wait to see you all again!
On the road again in our tatty faded car we headed to the Great Ocean Road. Thankfully the guys put in a good effort navigating this time and we actually got there without entering the wrong state several times! The Great Ocean Road really is great, oceany and road like! :) With a solid cliff face on one side of the car and a sheer 40 foot drop into the ocean the other side of the car it is very spectacular all the way along the 200 km stretch of road. I'd even go as far to say as we saw the most spectacular and beautiful sights we have seen in Oz so far. There were many hidden little beaches along the way and little stop offs such as the London Bridge, Lock ard Gorge and the Grotto. You really should have a look in our photo album, words could never describe how marvelous the sights really were. We also got to see the famous 12 Apostles, although Aussies should get done for false advertising, there are only 8 left!!! The day was going so well until Rach had a little accident... bearing in mind in Britain she had 24 hours of driving lessons, passed her test in Aug and haden't driven since, then got chucked in the deep end having to drive around 3 guys with no licences, in a foriegn country with a car that is twice as long as a normal car and has no power steering. She went too fast into a parking space and hit a post.... Doesn't sound like much but the cars front is now inverted with twisted body work, a bent front bumper that is hanging on by a bit of wire, cracked front lights and a bonnet that doesn't quite fit... oops!!! On the plus side it still works, and we get some interesting sounds to listen to as bits of the car which are in the wrong places clunk around each other!
After the great ocean road we spent a day in Melbourne, Oz 2nd largest city. We watched the Di Vinci Code in the cinema (its probably on dvd in England now, still in the cinemas here even in June, Oz is sooooo behind the times!) we are all great fans of Dan Brown after reading his entire collection of books, but Mr Brown we want more!!! After Melbourne we went to Canberra which is Australias capital city. Not much of a capital, it was only made the capital because of such fierce competition between Melbourne and Sydney for capital status the Auzzies thought they'd be smart and put the capital in the middle of them. G and Andy spent the entire day in one of Canberra's pubs, typical men! Jase and Rach got to see all the sights although unfortunatly there wern't many. That night we had a terrible time trying to find somewhere to camp; we found a building site which couldn't do because we'd been seen and get kicked off, we almost camped in a cemetary until we noticed all the grave stones! Jason spent half an hour directing us around only to find a 5 mtr patch of grass which he tried vainly to persuade us wasn't someones front garden even though it was in the middle of a housing estate and had a driveway up the middle of it...! We almost camped in an archery range! We eventually pulled up on a little road leading to a bit of forest and slept in the car. Much to our dismay in the morning we awoke to find we'd parked in the enterance to a paintball park, so hurriedly left...!
After that oh so pleasnt sleeping experience (I really cannot wait to be back in my bed in England!) we headed to Sydney!!!! (Again!!)
In Sydney a really unexpected soul destroying event took place, one that we both agree would either make or break us as a couple. And to get through it would really take a miracle.
Bet you want to read on now don't you! Well thats another journal entry away! Mwhahahahahaha!
Speak soon!!!
Lots of love, Jase & Rach xxx
Btw, the photo here is of the grotto I mentioned earlier, its an arch weathered into the cliff with a pool of still tranquill water on our side then just past those last few rocks you can see, the ocean is so wild with huge waves ripping into the cliff.
