Down Under!
Hey Everyone!!
We have finally left Adelaide! Yey!!! Although we drove from the hotel not even knowing which road leaves the city, having only a terrible map and much worse - having 3 guys navigating, that was just asking for trouble! Our aim was to drive to Mount Gambia where our mate Ben was staying with his dad. Instead we managed to leave South Australia and drive into a totally different state- to comprehend that just imagine South Australia could actually fit the UK into it about 4 times! Our 4 hour journey turned into a 2 day journey! We had a great time though, our first night we camped in a field with Andy (a complete paramaniac!!!) making us our very own little camp fire. Because we set the camp up at night we didn't realise what we were camping on, Jase and Rach woke up horrified to find out our tent was actually on an ants nest! We stopped off at the Grampian mountain range and had a lovely trek up to the top, after debating whether to throw Gordon off the top (which was very tempting!) we headed back to the car in the hope of reaching Mount Gambia that night. Everyone was getting more and more agitated especially poor Jase when Gordon and Andy started singing- terribly I might add- Jase turned off the radio as a friendly hint for them to pllleeeease respect our ears but then Andy carried on... big mistake, Jase accidentally threw the radio nobs out of the window! So we were left with nothing to listen to exceot the weird rattling and groaning of the car. Then after getting lost countless times, going into Victoria again(!) and having Andy take over driving and driving into a Kangaroo we actually arrived at Ben's dads house. (Yey!!!)
Ben is a spitting image of his dad (Gary), minus the foot of gangly facial hair. They were both really great to us, Gary let us sleep in his house and Ben got us jobs putting up huge tents for South Australia's main horse races. We did this for a few days, working by day and going to the pub by night. Then at the end of it we were all invited to the races for free, which we of course went to, and of course accidentally gambled on (Only a few dollars though, we were good!!) We left a few hours later when much to our dismay lots of drunk old people started ballroom dancing to ABBA...
I just have to mention Gary's dogs, the mother who was black and white and her daughter who was brown and white were two of the most cute dogs ever! And you'll never guess what Gary named them, its the most imaginative and unique names...... black dog and brown dog!!!!
Ben showed us a few sights of Mount Gambia, there was a sinkhole full of water which doesn't have a bottom, only caves really deep down in the water. Its really good for swimming and apparently good for jumping off the side of the sink hole- 30metres high up above the water! We saw the blue lake which is the bluest lake imaginable. And we also went to the Umpherson Sinkhole which there are photos of in the photoalbum & the photo with this journal entry was us there by daylight. At the umpherson sinkhole we were met by loads of little Posums which are half squirrel half cat like animals, sooooo cute!!!! They us stroke them, and then when Ben's pshyco girl friend (she really was a psyhco!) came with a few bottles of rum and coke, she tried to get it to drink the rum. The possum actually held the bottle with its 2 front feet (the psyco was still supporting it tho) and gulped down the bottle!!! It was like somthing out of a cartoon!! I really wish I'd had my camera to film it! We didn't realise just how psycotic Ben's girldfriend was until she decided she wanted to take Rach, Jase, G and Andy on a road trip, after speeding in the middle of a windey road in the dead of night we ended up at an extinct volcano. She expected us to walk with her up this volcano in the pitch black there were no lights anywhere and we had no torches, after all our protests she then thought it would be a good idea to borrow a torch. Where from we thought?!? Until to our embarrassment we found her knocking on random peoples doors to ask if she could borrow a torch! We left thankfully, and ended up in a McDonalds where she left us eating our burgers while she went to play in the kids play area with all the 10 year old kids. Bearing in mind this woman was about 28, and was sober.
After spending a week in Mount Gambia we were back inside Vixen (our name for the car, I don't know why?!) on the road again heading towards the Great Ocean Road. But thats another journal entry!
Hope you are all well!
Lots of love, Jase & Rach xxx
