Oz goes 2 Oz
Day 1
Hi,
Ok, after one hell of a jounrey I finally made it to Melbourne - the ozzie Virgin Blue (their version of sleazyjet) was something else!! - at the end we were given a thought for the day - it was like something off of Wogan!
Anyway I met Kit at the airport and we headed off on the Great Ocean Road - how spectacular!!! The Great Ocean Road was built by servicemen who returned from WW1 with no jobs to go back to, and was built as a memorial to those who died in the war.
On the road we stopped off at lots of little laybys to admire the views. We also stopped off at some waterfalls that were also pretty good. As we were approaching Apollo Bay - where our Youth hostel is for the night we went up a track were Kit had herd rumours that there were Koalas there - and we saw 3 Koalas two adults and a baby - it was really good to see them in the wild!!
Anyway - I have to go now to catch up on some sleep - more on the GOR tomorrow!!

Day 2
Hi,
So Day 2 on the Great Ocean Road - I have taken loads of pictures but all of the computers I have had access wont let me upload the pictures for various reasons - so hopefully I will be able to get some pictures up shortly!!!
After leaving Apollo Bay, we carried on along the Great Ocean Road which left the Ocean and when more inland through the forests - where we saw another 2 Koalas - bringing my total up to 6!! - but so far I have seen no wild roo's - I have eaten one though!!!
When the road came back to the ocean our first port of call was the twelve Apostles (the picture shown). These are 9 (don't ask!!!) stacks of rock along this stretch of coast (nicknamed the ship wreck coast as there have been so many wrecks along it!!). They were very good and I managed to take some good pictures there !! We carried on along the road and stopped off at Loch Ard Gorge - a very small cove where I tried to run away from a big wave that was coming in, tripped up and then got soaked!! The next stop was thunder cave - given its name because when waves enter, it sounds like thunder! We then carried along the road to Port Campbell where we checked into a Motel. Later on we returned to the Apostles to try and get some photos of the sunset - unfortunatly it was quite over cast so no joy, however we did manage to see the Fairy Penguins (about 1ft Tall) walk up the beach. Each day 10mins after sunset these penguins leave the sea, walk up the beach and nest - you can set your watch by them! It was cool knowing that it had been going on for thousands of years and that they still carry on wondering even when there are people there watching them.
Tomorrow more on the GOR and then on to Melbourne

Day 3
Hi,
After the dissapointing photo oppo. in the previous evening we decided that we would try a sun rise opver the 12 Appostles, this was equally overcast however we did see the penguins again, but this time, 10 minutes after sunrise they went from their nests to the sea.
On the way back from Port Campbell we travelled in land more and visitied the Ottway Fly which is a system of boardwalks through the middle of the rainforest - it was awesome. After this is was straight on to Melbourne - which was interesting as my map reading isnt't all that great especially navigating through Melbourne - when you consider that in most cases (due to the trams) that for a right hand turn you must be in the left lane!!!
We arrived at Josie and Tyson's house at about 9pm where we had some food and went to sleep!!
