Caloundra
We stayed at Dicky Beach just north of Caloundra. Great caravan park right on the beach. The first morning we spent on the beach swimming and building sand castles. We then also went for a swim in the pool. After lunch we went for a drive while the kids had their sleep. We drove down through Caloundra and a bit further south and then drove north and ended up in Mooloolaba in the afternoon. We played at the playground and had a snack at a café and walked around a bit. Very nice spot. Then we had to hurry to the food store before they closed. We forgot it was Saturday and the shops close early.
We had one more day in Caloundra so we drove out to Australia Zoo. It was a great park with lots of crocodiles. We saw a great bird and crocodile show and then stayed on to watch as they were filming for some show. It was fun to see Steve Irwin's son Bob there and Terry his wife. I have never been a huge fan but it was still fun to see.
We also saw a tiger show and when they fed the otters. There were koalas, cassowaries, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and many more. Lots of fun for everyone.
Noosa Heads
On the way to Noosa we drove passed the big pineapple and took a photo out of the window of the car. Drive by tourism. We also stopped at the ginger factory where we stocked up on some ginger snacks and ginger drinks and the kids got to go for a train ride. Everyone happy!
In Noosa we didn't actually stay at Noosa. We stayed at Tewantin just a few kilometers away so that we could have a pool. It was just a few minutes drive so it was worth it.
Noosa Heads and Noosaville are really nice areas. The main street at Noosa Heads has all the trees lit up with lights making it really nice and cosy at night. The first night, after having a swim at the caravan park pool, we had dinner at the Noosa Heads surf club. There was a really long queue to order and it took a long time to get our order in so we thought we would be waiting for ages. But I hardly had time to go get our drinks at the bar and sit down again, before the meals where there. Fantastic! You don't want food taking a long time when you have kids.
The next day we went back to Noosa heads and spent the morning enjoying the beach. We thought we might go for a drive so that the kids could sleep but Elise fell asleep during lunch so we stayed at Noosa Heads until she woke up. The afternoon was filled with chores. We went to Tewantin and did some food shopping, well while I did the shopping the kids and Patrik played at the playground. Then we went back to the caravan park. We went for a swim and after dinner and putting the kids to bed, we did laundry. Yay
Bundaberg
When we packed up our things in the morning in Noosa, it was pouring down with rain. Patrik had to put on his bathers when packing up all the outdoor things and then get changed before hopping in the car. The kids and I were sitting inside doing coloring in and keeping dry. It was very funny!
It rained the whole way to Bundaberg!
We actually stayed at Elliott Beach, 20 minutes outside of Bundaberg. We were a little bit worried when the navigator took us out into the country side and we were surrounded by fields and fields of sugar cane plantations. The navigator is not entirely trustworthy but this time it did get us to our destination. We were lucky that the rain did stop for a while as we set up the caravan.
I think there was a sandy beach at Elliott Heads but otherwise the coast line there was just rocks. Beautiful views though.
As it was still raining in the evening we decided that we would take the kids to an indoor play center in the morning. When we woke up it was actually quite nice but as we didn't have an alternate plan we stuck with the play center and the kids had a great time playing with a bunch of new friends.
While the kids slept in the car we drove around Bundaberg and out to the coast to have a look at the other coastal towns. Then we drove back to Bundaberg and visited the Big Barrel at the Bundaberg ginger beer factory. It would have been fun to do a tour of the factory but we got there too late. We did buy some drinks though.
Yeppoon
We arrive a little bit late in the afternoon at Yeppoon so we didn't go for a swim in the pool. But a little girl came to wish us welcome and she played for a little bit with Max and Elise. It was really nice weather for a change so we could sit outside to have dinner.
In the morning it was raining again so we watched a movie in bed. Very cozy! After the movie the rain had cleared up so we went for a swim in the pool. Another family was also there swimming. Their kids were a bit older but it was still exciting for Max and Elise that they were there.
After lunch we went for a drive and when the kids woke up we stopped at the Yeppoon Marina and had afternoon tea and scones and banana bread. Yummy! Then we drove in to the center of Yeppoon and played at the playground and then we went and had dinner at the hotel/pub. After dinner we stayed at the foreshore for a little while and watched some fire twirlers and the kids got to run around a bit more. Max fell down a little wall but was ok. He came up a little surprised but laughing in the end. Just a few minutes later he did it again. Just as Patrik got to him, he jumped up and said, Ha Ha!!! Lucky little boy! We decided it was time to go home and go to bed before our luck would run out.
