We arrived fairly late in Kathrine and we were lucky that there was a small restaurant in the caravan park. So we didn't have to cook, yay!
Onto Kununurra and WA the next morning. The last state, or was it the first? The caravan park was quite nice in Kununurra and they had a resident crocodile which sat at the waters edge. It was quite exciting to see it so close. A lady came and gave it prawn shells, no wonder it sits there waiting.
Our next stop was Halls Creek, not a very exciting place. No need to stay more than one night. The caravan park was pretty much just a sand pit and some concrete slabs. They did have a pool though. It was freezing cold however, not even the kids wanted to get in.
The last stop before Broome was Derby. We didn't have a look around Derby until the next morning when we were leaving. It was a smaller town than I expected. We drove out on the jetty and had a look. There were vast sandflats on the way out. If I remember correctly they have 11 meter tides, the highest tides in Australia. So the jetty was really high. We also stopped to look at the Prison Tree, a large hollow Boab tree that is thought to have been used to hold prisoners while they were being transported to Derby.
Next stop Broome!
