With over 100 days of traveling under our belts one of our constant sources of misery is not being able to order the BIG American breakfast. Sure we've had our fair share of delicious croissants, breakfast pretzels, and salami to kick the day off, but nothing to match the full on breakfast we love having in the States when the mood hits us.
Whether it's Chick-n-Minis and their excellent coffee from Chick-Fil-A with Nina before work, breakfast with the fellas at Pegasus, or meeting with friends and family at Original House of Pancakes I'm a breakfast-a-holic. In fact, one of the most important things I've ever taught my kids is that you can judge a quality of a restaurant's breakfast by whether or not your coffee gets below half-a-cup or not. If it does, it's not worth a return visit. (Insert father-of-the-year ballots now)
Fortunately we have some foodies for friends who, along with recommending several top notch joints recommended a place to satiate our cravings in Florence, Italy called The Diner - http://www.theflorencediner.com/wp/.
We kicked off our sightseeing in Florence with breakfast there and were not disappointed. Stacks of pancakes and multiple syrups, make-your-own three egg omelettes, and unlimited coffee provided exactly what we were looking for. And as proof of the quality, students filled the place as Florence has over 40 universities.
So I think we should be good now for a little bit as we get ready to transition to morning meals based on rice, ramen noodles, and pho. If you know of any American breakfast joints in the countries on our itinerary we would welcome hearing about them. Who doesn't need a Grand Slam every once in awhile?

Renee Kranking You found it! Wasn't it a cute place, with American bacon, no less :-)
Amy Renee, The pancakes were great, but the American bacon was over the top! Thank you, thank you!
