Our last week in Austria has been one of great contrasts. We started it off with a completely hilarious Sound of Music bike tour. Our tour guide, Jonas, was a total rock star. I wish I could have been on a tour with him and a bunch of single women. They would have oogled and aahed the whole time over this guy. And what was really great about the Dane, who was from Copenhagen, living in Salzburg for the last year, was his sense of humor. The best line he dropped was when he referred to the first restaurant in Salzburg opening in 800 A.D. It was replete with music and fine dining. Jonas says, "I don't know what was happening in the America that long ago, but I know in Denmark we were busy raping and pillaging".
Later in the week we went to a place called Hangar 7. Talk about the ultimate Man Cave well this is the ultimate Man Hangar since a cave would not be big enough. Hangar 7 is where the CEO and founder of Red Bull houses all his cool toys. And when I say toys I mean Formula 1 racecars, NASCAR's, helicopters, and jet airplanes. Oh wait, and jet packs too. Inside the hangar on the top is the CEO's office as well and it's completely visible and glassed in. This place was so off the chart cool I thought we would get kicked out. You're walking around this bright hangar with the Alps teeming in the background while they play the grooviest sounds. There's a restaurant in the hangar that serves food by the glass based on your mood. You could choose from brain, mood, or beauty. Since none of us are moody and we're really smart and beautiful we opted for the outdoor grill to watch the jets land. Like everything else groovy in the Hangar, the food was perfectly prepared and served just right.
Sound of Music. Jets and race cars. To celebrate our second month over the hills and far away we went to a Mozart concert in Vienna. The performance was at the Musikverein, an ornate concert hall in the city. According to tradition, the orchestra played a wide selection of Mozart's "greatest hits" which back in the day they called musical academies. So we had a good taste of the operatic and symphonic pieces. Of course, we knew all of this music from years of watching Bugs Bunny. During the show, Amy leans over to me and says, "that's from Bugs Bunny too!"
And the last contrast we came across this week involved Count Chocula and everyone's friend the Biden-ator. Oh wait, let's save that for another day…
Be well my friends. AG
