So we left Bundaberg for Byron with a few people we met, Liam, a 24 year old Brummy who was just hilarious and Chris who was 21. We were meeting a few people from Bundaberg down here to because they'd left sooner. We got the greyhound bus down, as well as this absolute nut job who was shouting all the way down. The bus driver actually had to bring her to the front of the bus and told her to shut her mouth haha. We arrived in Byron at 1 in the morning which was a bit of a mare and had to sleep behind the bus shelter which wasn't brilliant. When the sun rose at 5am, Cam and Chris left to search for a camp site in the bus (as we didn't have much money). They came back half an hour later and we walked to our new home for the next 2 weeks. When I first arrived I was grumpy and tired and this place wasn't ideal but after a few hours and a sleep it was ideal. We were 1 minute into the centre of town and a 2 minute walk to the amazing beach.
We set up our tents and the chairs and the hammock and had such an awesome time. After a week the camp ended up being enlarged as 2 other guys we met in Bundaberg cam to camp with us and Chris's friend Bonnie came. So we now had 4 tents and a proper little set up going on. Nearer the end of our time there we had 8 people, including a cool guy from New Zealand we met who stayed for a few nights. We had 5 tents, some chairs, a hammock, a bench made out of plank of wood and some barrels, a table made from some cardboard boxes, a fire where we had a grill, a pan and a pot to cook food on. It was pretty awesme! But after a while we ended up just living off mainly tuna because nobody could be bothered to start the fire or cook and most of the cutlery was in the mud.
We saw some horrible spiders! Loads of huge Huntsman spiders and Orbs which are bigger than my hand. We also had some little pet bush turkeys which ended up getting a lot bigger very quickly and kept reporting back to mother bush turkey who would eat our food when we were out. There were also huuuuuge Iguana's. Around about 1 metre and a half long who were also getting cheeky around camp and too close for comfort. I saw 2 snakes, only little ones though.
Cam also bought a surfboard which he was chuffed about and he surfed on Christmas day. Christmas wasn't very christmassy and obviously not the same as being at home but we went to the beach and had a bbq for dinner which was cool. We also made a trip back to Nimbin which was faaaaab! Such a good day out and found this swimming hole which was an old quarry. The boys all jumped off the top of it which was sooo high! We would go to the green every evening in Bryon and all sit around and chill out there where all the hippies would be playing with hula hoops and these things with fire on. One evening there was a really cool band who started randomly playing. After about 3/4 hour there were a bout 100 people dancing around them. A silent dicso can also pulled up one night with hundreds of head phones and 2 djs for different options of music. Everyone danced around like crazy and moved down to the beach which was awesommmme!
Everyone left on the 4th, the day that Mum, Dad and Cal came out! Woooo
