Our Global Gallivants
We decided to do some sightseeing today since we have a car at our disposal. The plan was to go on a hike to see a waterfall. Turns out the signage in Thailand is not so good and we went about 30 kms. outside of Khao Lak. It was a bit of a windy road, but interesting to see the lush landscape. We drove past quite a few rubber plantations, and Clement stopped so I could have a closer look at some full rubber pots. The tree that we stopped beside was dripping small droplets of rubber into the cup. There was a snowball shaped rubber ball and some liquid rubber in the pot as well. I couldn't resist and stuck my finger in it. It was sticky, but the smell! It was similar to fish sauce! I had to wash my hands with soap three different times in order to get rid of it. But how often do you get the opportunity to stick your finger in real rubber?
We couldn't seem to find the turnoff for the waterfall, so pulled off at a little roadside coffee shop to ask directions and have a drink. It was so odd that her shop was perched on the side of a drop off and the back part of it was on stilts. This place had free wifi and it was fast!
Eventually we went to 2 different waterfalls-they were pretty small. On the return, we stopped at the top beach in Khao Lak. Jody and I went for a swim and a long walk on the beach. There were a few jellyfish at that location. Spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing at the pool.
When we returned to our room, their was a flower arrangement for us, and also one for Jody that said, "Thank you for your saved". They look suspiciously like the flowers from yesterday's wedding, but it is sweet, nonetheless.
We went to a restaurant down the street for dinner tonight. The fish and calamari was good, but the meat shish kebabs were not edible and had to be sent back.
Redeeming the food at the ice cream rolls booth. Yum!
