So we landed on Wednesday here in Rio De Janeiro and soon found our hostel in Santa Teresa, which was not quite the Bohemian destination we´d expected - unless that is the Portuguese word for favela .
Spent next day or so walking around and getting our bearings in this crazy crazy city.
From that point onwards we started to take in some of the traditional sites that Rio has to offer, such as Christ T Redeemer, Sugar Loaf mountain, Copacobana & Ipanema beaches and the criminals and general down and outs of Lapa. The final spectacle of our short stay in Rio was going to watch Flamengo play against Bonsuccesso unfortunately not at the Maracana (200,000 people) but at the not so impressive Enghenao (45000) stadium. What the stadium lacked in impressiveness the small crowd more than made up for - who´d have thought an attendance of 6528 people would make more noise than any Premier league team Ben´s ever seen - Reet seems to think that they sing louder at Anfield.
As we write this we are now awaiting our overnight bus to Ouro Preto, one of the old Brazilian mining towns. Should be a fun stopover before we take our next step to Cuiaba where the Pantanal awaits us !!!!
