Thursday 8 May - it is our turn to sit in the front front rows seats today, everybody moves two seats up, on the right hand side of the coach, and two seats back on the left side of the coach, we made our way south to the verdant Loire Valley where, during the 15th & 16th centuries, the Kings of France created their holiday palaces. Perfect day to sit up the front with the huge front picture windows !!!
The Loire is the longest river in France, with a length of 1,012 kilometres, it drains an area of 117,054 km², or more than a fifth of France's land area, and is the 170th longest river in the world
First stop city of Angers where we visited a 13th century granite chateau, which houses the carefully restored medieval Apocalypse Tapestry with its magnificent glowing red, blue and gold threads. All I can say is WOW - this chateau is breathtakingly amazing. We spent over an hour here wandering around and decided to have lunch at the museum cafe as it as a public holiday, Victory Day, so a lot of shops etc were closed.
In the afternoon we followed the River Loire past Saumur (see picture of the castle, as the main picture for this day) and Usee with its 16th century "Sleeping Beauty" chateau, to reach our Chateau hotel Domaine de la Tortiniere for the next three nights.
Russi and I had accommodation away from the rest of the group, it was in a little chalet. On walking in there is a snooker room with an open fire then up a flight of stairs was our room. There was only one more room, which was a suite. The room was quaint with the toilet in a cupboard on the other side of the room away from the bathroom, which actually was quite a food idea and it worked well for us. Needless to say it was very quiet at night. The grounds of the Chateau Hotel Domaine de la Tortiniere were amazing with walks through a treed bush land, a huge maze and the views over the town from the balcony were breathtaking, now here's a place to celebrate your 30th wedding anniversary !!. Dinner tonight was included and the food amazing. As most of you know I normally don't each much but oo la la I have been eating three courses, mind you the portion sizes are. Inch smaller than what we serve at home.
All in all another fab day !!!!!!!
