To understand the difference between a traveller and a tourist head to Ko Tao, an island of tacky entertainment and overpriced beds accommodating the demands of 'two weekers' with pockets full of baht. We wanted off the island and to somewhere peaceful where we could drink a cold beer, on a quiet beach and preferably hammocks included.
Meet koh Lanta...
Arriving on December 1st meant double budget (Jo's birthday) so it was a night of cocktails and birthday cake.
The next day, a trip to a secluded beach for snorkeling. On this day we got more than just snorkeling. Sam fell off her moped, Ellie got robbed by a monkey who couldn't resist her salt and sour Lays and after this, jelly fish stings galore. Still smiling, we went home and drank beer.
Yet another eventful day on Koh Lanta saw us wake up to a burglary (I lost my iPod, Sam lost her iPad), a day traipsing long beach searching for new digs that didn't cost a bomb, and ironically finding free accommodation... A tent on the beach lent to us by a thai rasta, which meant the best view on the island. You win some you loose some.
An early get up and a boat/coach to krabi en route to country number 5... Malaysia!
