hello all just a short little blog as we were super lazy in Chiang Rai! We had a lovely very cheap little guesthouse with a beautiful garden so we took the chance to just relax for a couple of days! after that we found an ecotourism project that was run by the chief of an Akha village and set off on probably the most terrifying car ride of our lives - an hour and a half roaring precariously around sharp bends along the side of a huge mountain on the bumpiest dirt track! the place was really beautiful, really isolated in a simple wooden hut overlooking the epic jungle scenery. The trek was pretty much all uphill - no surprise there as it was up a mountain! it was a great if challenging experience which included our guides cooking us a meal inside bamboo with bamboo cups and chopsticks, and we had jungle tea from the leaves of the tea tree! We passed through a Yao village where there were lots of cute babies and had a chat to the villagers in thai! lastly we trekked to a beautiful waterfall which cooled us down a really good way to end the trek!We also went to the hilltribe museum and we learnt a lot about the differing tribes in Northern Thailand and also how to make Opium which is handy! Another highlight was Wat Rong Khun the 'white temple', it was really unusual to see a modern temple and it was a really crazy piece of architecture - inside was even stranger with a mural depicting (we think) the end of the world, mostly caused by hollywood actors!! Lots of deliberation ensued after our week in chiang rai one day we were off to nan, the next we were going to stay in chiang rai, maybe even back to mae moh but then on the spur of the moment after meeting a lovely couple Chris and Claire (how weird is that mum and dad?! at least we wont forget their names!!) we decided to hot foot it to Laos,so three days of travelling ensued. We travelled by bus boat and train solidly (apologies for not telling anyone we were going!!)and are now recovering in a rather posh guesthouse!! love to all, check out the photos, Laos blog soon! XX
