7th June
Day 6 - topdeck Turkey Explorer.
Today we have a long driving day to Fethiye. Hopped on the bus at 7am. Drove through plain countryside. Again noticing the lack of fences in the farm land. But the fields size have increased. Still small compared to australia but lot larger than those in Romania. You also notice that the house are all together in a small village and the farmer just goes out to the field he has to work each day and then travels back to the village at the end of each day. The soil is also very light colour, almost white in some patches through to a light grey.
After almost 3 hours on the bus we ha a quick stop. Then hopped back on the bus and played a couple of game and a quiz. Helped to pass a few more hours. Ate a few snacks including some cherries which are only 5TL a kilo and so tasty as they are currently in season... Sweet and juicy. After a couple more bathroom breaks we arrived at the saklikent gorge after 4pm. Was later then expected due to break problems with the bus and we had to drive slow.
Once there we enjoyed a nice lunch lounging on pontoons over the river that runs through the gorge. Some of the group went rafting while the others went on a walk towards a waterfalls. Sign showed it to be 1.5km away we walked for a good distance and time passed by a turtle on the side of the road. We then reached another sign that said it was still 1km away so we had to turn back as there wasn't enough time and maybe that sign was wrong also about this distance. Walked back which was nice in the evening sun and so good to finally be off the bus and out in the fresh air. Has felt like a lot of bus travel over the last couple of days....
Arrived at the hotel and it was really nice. A resort style place with large pool and waterslide. We enjoyed dinner at the hotel before sitting out in the summer night by the pool drinking and listening to music. Was a nice night talking with my fellow topdeckers.
