4th June.
Day 3- topdeck turkey explorer.
Work up early again. The sun is so bright at 530am and my eyes just pop open!
Short tour of Ankara is on the cards today. Talked briefly about the history of turkey gaining independence in 1923 and the man that was the first prime minster o the country was kemel Ataturk. We visited the monument to him. Walked along the lion street up to the main square and then into the mausoleum in which there is a ceremonial casket as he is buried underground. While there a group of visiting official came and laid a wreath at the site. This is the custom for all important international officials to first visit the monument before conducting there business in ankara. Then it was on the bus to cappadocia region. Drove for a couple of hours before stopping for lunch and then drove from another 3and half hours. Passed by the Hanan mountain which was still snow capped.
We arrived at the hotel with some time to spare. Quick walk to the store for a few supplies.
We drove through the derwent valley in the way to the local families house. It was so interesting to see the natural land formations created by the volcanic ash and rocks which have then been errorded away creating spectacular columns of earth. It was about a 45 min drive to the small village. We entered into the room which was a cave in the side of a hill. It was all setup with low tables and cushions on the floor ready for us to sit down on the floor and enjoy the food. It was a tasty meal with a few different courses of home cooked soups and stews. After dinner they cleared the tables and cushions away and we tired dancing withthe families. They played music and we danced around. They taught us some local dance moves of clicking your fingers and holding your arms up.
