5th June- Breakfast at my Casa and then just packed and had a slight rest as am not feeling very good this morning. I think the long day in the sun riding, heat and dehydration has all come together. On the bus at 9am and drove for a couple hours, back through Cienfuegos. The road followed the coast so a little windy and at time ordinary pavement but again provided for interesting scenery. Drove past an enormous mango plantation. We arrived in Santa Clara and visited the Che Guevara memorial. It had a large bronze statue of him with his favorite saying: always towards victory. Then walled underneath to the mouslium with his remains, that were returned to Cuba in 1997 after excavation in Bolivia uncovered them. There was a museum also which covered Che life from birth in Argentina to medical training and then travels though the Americans and meeting Castro in 1955 in Mexico while both were in the underground hiding. It was then time to get back in the van and drive to Havana. Stopped for lunch at a gas station/ road side cafe and they had a man there playing live music. Arrived at at Havana Casa just after 4pm. It is a beautifully restored home. Headed out for a walk to find accommodation for tomorrow night at the backpackers. Meet some of the group at the Casa at 6pm an we caught an old open top taxi to the malcon water front area. Enjoyed sitting on the water having a drink. Saw a local climb out of the ocean with this enormous Fish and then just gut &skin it right there. Also meet a local artist that invited us to a music venue with alternative bands and he showed us pictures of his paintings. We then walked back to the Casa via the prado. quickly showered and changed ready for out last group dinner. We headed to a local western cowboy restaurant. Enjoyed a delicious meal of Rojo which is a local dish of slow cooked shredded beef. We then headed to the bar floradita, which is were hemmingway drank and the daiquiri cocktail was invented. They had a small band playing some music so sat and listened to the them. The walked along to the hotel florida for some salsa dancing. It was a very professional dance scene where everyone was amazing and it was just a dance floor with a small tv and VCR playing with the volume turned up loud and the drinks werent great but after having payed for entry we stayed for a bit and even danced a little. Once that was slowing down walked back to the Casa. The locals asked as several times if we wanted a taxi ride but wasn't needed as we were close. Then one taxi driver asked do we need a taxi... No. And then proceeded with do we need a boyfriend... No. As they might be the only things that a person walking along a night would need. They are very direct and forward when asking anything.
