This morning it was an awesome relief and very exciting to find out I have been accepted into university in Malmö starting this September. Although we've really been enjoying the trip it has always been in the back of our minds that what we were going to do when we got home was very much up in the air! Now with a "yes" from the university we can relax and make the most of our being here before the busy move when we get back!
The hostel here in Punakaiki is really amazing and one we wish we could stay at longer (damn planning bus journeys and booking hostels in advance!) so we enjoyed the morning sun and had a leisurely breakfast with a couple of cups of tea!
As the weather was so good today and we were just right for high tide we troddled the 4km back to the Pancake Rocks, to us they were just as spectacular as yesterday but the weather does them better justice for the photographs! We had the Pororari River Walk planned for the afternoon we took us through rainforest following the river inland, a very different walk to what we have done so far as there is no finish point, the loop is a longer multi day tramp so it was a case of turning around when we had enough! The river looked perfect for kayaking and we jealous to see some people paddling along!
On the way back we hit the Truman Track which is short nip from the road through the forest to a headland and down to the beach. The sand is only accessible at low tide and as there was hardly anyone else there it was like being in our private paradise! It's quite eerie to be on a beach that hundreds have walked on in the previous few days but there be no footprints where the sea washes them away. We spent some time playing on the rocks and looking into the caverns before Olof started taking pictures of a waterfall. Admittedly it was a lovely waterfall but he must of been there for ten minutes, how many photographs from different angles do we need of one waterfall!
Back at the hostel we had a great sandwich with bread, freshly baked that morning followed by a chocolate chip muffin! Good weather, great location, cosy hostel....remind us why we have to leave tomorrow?!
