We had a shaky start this morning, our bus was leaving at ten past eight for Fox Glacier and the alarm on the iPad failed us (damn technology!) so it was a little rush to up and leave but we had plenty of time for sleeping on the seven hour journey! A journey which could be shortened to about four hours if it wasn't for the toilet, lunch and afternoon tea stops! It is a pretty scenic journey over to the West Coast and we arrived in the very small town of Fox, we booked to stay at one of the bigger backpackers but we had booked a "cottage" not really knowing what is was, it sounded fancy! Checking in, it was marked on the map of the town where this cottage was but not knowing whether the map was to scale or the distance we headed off with all our bags! After around thirty minutes of walking and the houses dwindling we were positively fed up! This wasn't mentioned on the website or by the girl at check in! Finally we arrived and it was a lovely place, if we had a car! An hour trip for food shopping is never fun so we headed back into town again to see if we could swap to a normal double room at the hostel itself. The manager was great and couldn't believe we'd walked it or the girl hadn't asked if we had a car on check in and we even got a lift to grab our stuff! So we settled into our room and evening was upon us before we knew it! We are going to give the guided glacier walks a miss but we're going to do the hike up to the viewpoint and also we want to go to the internationally known Mirror Lake with views of Mount Cook.
