Could it be any hotter? Well, unless your reading this from the equator, the answer is no. A couple of days ago my back got burned so raw I was pretty radioactive for about forty eight hours. It's gone down now, but still! My English Rose skin can't handle this! Absolutely love it though. Ashleigh (our friend that we're staying with) works loads to pay for this beautiful condo, so Chloe and I have been chilling out during the day, hence catching the sun. We went to the mall down the street a few days ago and hit up Banana Republic; they make such beautiful preppy clothes but I'm trying (or rather, feebly attempting) to limit my spending because I really want to buy an iPod Touch in LA. Regardless, I dropped about $60 on three tops and some shorts to flash my milk bottles. Not bad really.
I think that was the same day we took Peggy Sue for a walk! Peggy Sue is Ash's dog, formerly known as Phoebe until I renamed her and it stuck. We even have Ash's mother calling her Peggy Sue! Anyways, so Chloe, Peglet and myself went on a 'small' walk to try and find some food. About an hour and a half later we're pissing sweat and Peggy Sue is starting to collapse so I'm there carrying this little white maltese bijon across the insanely busy high way, dodging traffic and an early grave. We saw some cool things though, for example a giant sign saying MOM WANTS CAKE; very random, but too the point. I was sold.
On Sunday night we caught a cab to Ybor (pronounced Ebor) to go to this club called The Orpheum. The banned Uh Huh Her (starring Leisha Hailey aka. Alice from The L Word) were playing so we got tickets. The band were friggin awesome! They're now my Myspace song (ooh la la, I must be a fan!) They were dead good, and we met a couple of Ash's friends, namely Dan who is super nice and bought us each a coke. It would have been something a little more hard core, like perhaps a Babycham or something equally glam rock, but in the states the drinking age is 21 which is crap. Oh and although you can get in clubs at 18, they brand you so that the bar tender won't serve you! Chloe and I had big thick blue lines all over our hands. Suffice to say, Chloe woke up with a blue face the next morning and I had a smurf arm, but I suit blue anyway. Oh my gosh, and I can't forgot to mention the most mortifying moment of the night! We bumped in to Ash's friend Mindy (I know, very Americana) and Mindy put her hand out to shake mine and leant in to ask for my name, and when she lent in I slapped a fat smooch on her cheek! It was only as I was trying to release her from my lips that I heard her asking my name, and realised that was why she'd leant in to me! I died a thousand deaths and just tried to act casual and like that's what we do in Europe.
After the gig Dan, Chloe, Ashleigh and I went to IHOP for midnight pancakes. I had strawberry & banana ones, and they were so filling! It was insane, they were piled high with whipped cream and a side of butter. When Heather, the waitress asked if I wanted a side of bacon with it, I repeated in my most uptight British accent, "Bacon?!" to which she took as a yes and proceeded to add it to my order! I was like, get that meat away from my bananas! Close call.
The next day was another pool / burn day, and in the evening the three of us went to Channelside in Tampa to watch What Happens In Vegas. The movie was crazy funny and a million times better than I expected. Definitely one for the DVD collection. Oh and I tried Philly cheese steak, which I think you can get in Subway in the UK but I'd never tried, and I'm now in love. It's so good!
I have no recollection of Tuesday whatsoever, but yesterday we took a 50 minute drive to Ellenton where there's a huge outdoor mall with Ralph Lauren, Lucky, Saks, Converse, J Crew, Banana Republic and loads of designer stores. I ended up dropping $100 on two pairs of Lucky jeans (which is actually a crazy bargain and they're gorgeous) and also managed to get a pair of awesome Converse for about £15 GBP! It's so mad, I love the exchange rate at the moment. It means I get to shop, and still afford food to survive! The perfect combination. Then in the evening we ordered a s*** load of Chinese from this beautiful healthy Chinese place; it was like half noodles, half salad! Drank wine, and watched the America's Next Top Model cycle 10. I won't ruin it for all those who haven't yet seen cycle 10, but I'll just say it's an absolute travesty and Tyra Banks needs to stop pulling publicity stunts and just do her job instead of thinking she's frigging Oprah, and should have just let the true winner win instead of trying to make a statement.
Anyways, rant over! I'm going to go and read Gossip Girl now. I read the first novel in a day and a half, and I only picked it up about three times! I'm just totally addicted. We went in to Borders yesterday and Ash bought book 2 (which I'm now reading) and I bought book three and four. I was stood there in the Young Adult section thinking, hang on, I'm about to do an English degree and I'm reading teen girl fiction? Anyway I don't care, it's theraputic.
You know you love me!
XOXO Gossip Ol.
