So, the first part of our big adventure has started! We are in South Africa! The first 5 days of our trip were spent in Cape Town (3rd May - 8th May). We stayed in 2 really nice hotels, one 5 star and one 4 star that my Grandparents had organised for us, pretty good having people with hotel connections!!
We stayed near the V&A Waterfront, which is so pretty on a sunny day, luckily we got a few hours a day to enjoy it. We went to the Two Oceans Aquarium on the waterfront which was pretty interesting, we saw so many different things, some so beautiful and some so disgusting!
As it is winter in South Africa at the moment the weather in Cape Town was not all that great which meant that we missed out on doing a few of the things that we really wanted to do, like Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela was held prisoner) and Cape Point. We did however get to do Table Mountain which I was so happy about, it is what I was most looking forward to! We took at taxi ride to the bottom of the cableway, which I wasn't even sure would get us there it was so slow up some of the hills! We were a bit apprehensive to begin with as we were told that the visibility was going to be poor and when we looked up we could see a dark cloud hovering right about it but, when we got up to the top it was like a whole different place! The view was absolutely amazing, I can't even imagine what the views would be like on a clear day! We did the whole walk around the top of the mountain which is around 3 miles, taking about a million photos along the way, although none of the photos do the view any justice unfortunately! I am so glad that we decided to go up in the end, it must have taken us about an hour to decide, James and I together is a very indecisive pair!
I think we both thought it would be slightly different here, I definitely thought that it would be less developed and hot, but that's just a stereotypical view of South Africa that is definitely not true in big cities like Cape Town. Although the area was built up with skyscrapers and business people, there were quite a few beggars that came up to us for money. To begin with I didn't like it at all but you get used to it. A little tip though, you can hide money but you can't hide food so don't eat while you're walking along!
