Errrggghhhh.....a 4:45am wake-up call (after several alcoholic drinks only hours before) makes for a very miserable Siobhan!!!
However tempting to stay in Bangkok for another night, just to stay in bed a little longer, we successfully made it up and to the train station and on our train by 6am; today we are heading to Cambodia!!
The train journey was a £1 (each) 5.5hour journey, and pretty easy going, compared to previous trips.
Through immigration and on Cambodian soil it was time to sit down and enjoy a cambodian beer (55p a can!) while waiting for the bus to Siem Reap.
After having been on the road for a little over 12 hours we had arrived! A Tuk-Tuk and a few hotel inspections and our choice was made. Clean, hot shower, air con, T.V and DVD player, and even tea and coffee all in the room!!
A shower was much needed to remove the dust from the 6 hours of open windows on the train. Refreshed and ravenous, we hit the streets of Siem Reap.
Dinner was of course first on the list and quickly found in the form of Khmer BBQ (see picture): cook your own pork broth soup with veggies, and BBQ your own Prawns, Beef and squid. Served with rice, noodles and an egg, and washed down with a beer.
Siobh managed to squeeze a spa treatment and another pair of baggy hippy/traveller/temple trousers into today's budget.
Back to the hotel for an early night and a DVD!
