It was not the easiest berth to get off, the forecast was for westerly force four and it was blowing a five straight on to our staging. Having accomplished our exit we motored out to sea and the short chop that greeted us but after the sails were out and we turned to round the cliffs of Mon all went quiet with the engine off.
We sailed for three hours on a lovely broad reach but the wind was easing all the time, however sea remained a tad lumpy. As we dropped into the four know zone on went the engine…we had 58 miles to do today and it was not a lovely day with solid cloud and leaden sea, we needed to get on. And as the miles passed we closed the Swedish south coast and then up into the large indentation in which Ystad is situated.
After ten hours at sea we entered the small yacht harbour set on the side of the larger harbour dominated by ferries including the largest fast passenger ferry operating, a giant catamaran, running a shuttle to the Danish island of Bornholm.
We were made most welcome by the other two UK boats already here for the rally and quickly settled into pontoon life, chat - chat - chat!
This is the starting point for the rally. The owners of the largest boat, a sixty foot go anywhere motor boat, quickly invited us for drinks tomorrow evening. We were here atlast and in good time for the rally, it had taken us five weeks and now we would enjoy some R&R, socialising and sightseeing.
