We woke up early on a mission to see as many sights as we could on our last day in Venezia. Our hotel receptionist had advised us last night that they offered free trips to Murano every 20 mins to their hotel guests so we decided to take advantage of this great offer. We were also lucky enough to have the slick speedboat all to ourselves! At Murano, we were shown how the glass masters perform their art - truly amazing talent. We then walked through the showroom that displayed all their impressive work, but decided against buying anything and trying to carefully transport it home. We walked through a couple of little shops on the island and then made our way by vaporetto to our next destination - Burano. Burano was so vibrant with all it's colourful houses and lace shops, and we spent ages just walking around - seeing more and more things to photograph.
We then caught the vaporetto back to the Venice and walked from the North end of the island (Fondamente Nova) to the South (to St. Mark's Square). We then entered the Doge's Palace where we spent hours marveling at the artwork and architecture. From there we walked through the Bridge of Sighs (named this due to the moans of the prisoners that could be heard as they walked from the palace to the prison cells) and into the old prison chambers.
Being all Art and History'd out - we found ourselves a lovely restaurant (Marco Polo) to sit down and relax at for lunch.
In the evening we checked out the Rialto bridge again under moonlight, and also checked out St Marks square for it's nighttime atmosphere.
Oh! And be sure to go back & check out the photo albums from Barcelona onwards as we've finally had a chance to upload.
