Questad and Lovill's Europe Trip
Three cities later and its time for an update. Madrid was very very hot! We planned only one day to tour the city, so we treked everywhere quickly. We started at the Palacio Real, where the Royal Family used to reside. In the palace was a collection of armour and weapons from the 17th century. I got in trouble for using my flash, but it was worth it. We then went to the stadium where Real Madrid plays. There wasn't a game going on, but we went to the team store and bought ourselves some authentic jerseys to pose as true fans.
That night was our last night with Dan and Steph before they go a different route. We were all tired and were going to watch a movie at the hostel (I know, lame huh?). But an employee from the hostel convinced us to go on a pub crawl through Madrid. We went from watching a movie to partying until 5 in the morning in Madrid. We met other backpackers inlcuding Andrea, from Argentina, who taught us how to salsa dance a little. Adam proceeded to win a dance contest and got a free drink. The spaniards never seem to sleep!
From there we went to Sevilla. The day that we were there was a huge holiday and everything was close. But it worked out because it was the celebration of San Fernando which allowed us to go into the cathedral and see his open casket. He died over 800 years ago and aparently he will never decompose. It was eerie! Then, because of the holiday, there was a bullfight going on, so we naturally went to it. It was quite an experience. We didn't know the traditions behind it so we just cheered when everyone else did.
We are now in Granada for the day. We spent the whole day touring La Alhambra. A huge Islamic palace. Our feet are never getting a rest, but like the saying goes: "When in Rome!" We catch a night train to Valencia tonight. Time to relax on the beach for awhile.
Thanks for all of you who keep up with our website. We love your messages. Hopefully we can find a computer to load some pictures soon.
