Noy's 4th Walkabout
First, our lovely friends who we've met up with here. We should have explained in more detail the photos we put up on Monday. Jo came with camera to record our arrival at Melbourne! We landed pretty much on time after the long trip down from Phuket via, Bangkok and Sydney. In Bangkok we NEARLY had a Stanley and Livingstone moment spoiled only by Bangkok Airways flying Steve and Claire in from Laos about 30 minutes later than scheduled, so we went through to the departure lounge without meeting up with them. It is they who gave us the idea of joining "offexploring.com". Reading the message board you can see that Steve's efforts were amusingly frustrated by an errant rucksack!
Jo had already planned activities for the day and whisked Richard off to a concert given by his German choir in another part of Melbourne! No time to get tired! Back home Jill and Erika relaxed and we all had a nice meal together in the evening. During the evening we had to make arrangements to meet up with Margaret (with whom we're staying when we come back) and Oliver and his family who we're visiting with his Mum (Erika) in ten days or so.
Sunday found us oversleeping before rushing over to St. John's Toorak for the Sunday Service, taking J & E with us. There we met up with Mike Simpson(Vicar) and his wife Sally along with their two children (Sarah & Jonathan), son-in-law Tom and the newest addition (Jemima, 6 months) who we were thrilled to meet and hold for the first time.
Monday and Tuesday were Games days but before the Games we met up with Alan Biggins, another colleague from MAN UK who'd come out for a wedding. The photo of us all together in Federation Square represents a moment we had long talked about in planning in the last few months Richard was working at MAN. Mike and Sally took us out for Brunch on Tuesday (his day off) and we walked through Melbourne's Botanical Gardens, marvelling that the city has such space that the gardens can sit alongside the skyscrapers. We'll write about the games at the weekend but we've put up a few photos already. Love from us both, R&J xx
