Well the big day has come and gone. Andrew and I are settling into our new way of life so far without any major hazard.
We have spent the last 2 days conquering our new empire! We have managed to crack the transport system and have started looking for our permanent home.
Andrew has his first day at school tomorrow and is looking forward to joining the Thai rat race, and is particularly looking forward to using his one and only thai phrase that he has to delivery to the taxi man!
So far so good...................Charlotte x
Someone once siad that the meaning of life was 42, well in my case it is trying to explain to a Thai cab driver that I want to go to Soi 42 so that I can find my way to work. For those of you who are interested, I have to get in a cab and say "Soi Vipavadee, See Sip Song". Which hopefully translates as "Vipavadee Street, side road number 42". From reading the Thai phrase books there is no 'Please' or 'Thank you' so at least I can't get that wrong.
Bangkok has so far lived up to all expectations, it is hot (even in the 'cool' season), noisy, smelly, hectic and yet I think we are going to enjoy our time here. We have managed to find a quiet park where you can get away from the noise of Sukhumvit Road and spent a rather peaceful few minutes yesterday watching a kid of of one of the park attendents try and water a few plants but he was having more fun soaking himself, while we sat under a shady tree.
Tomorrow is the start of the first working week. After going for a few drinks with Ian, my new boss, last night, we're under no illusions that this is going to be an easy assignment, but we're here to work & learn and so far everything is OK.
Andrew.
PS. 3 days in and still haven't got sick yet.
