Hi all,
As some of you will realise I have skipped KL and Singapore - fraid i just dont have time, and figured Oz would be more interesting...
Anyways, so, Australia. We are absolutley loving it. We started in Perth which was cold wet n windy, but still great. The highlight was Rottnest Island, with all the little quokkers (rat-roos) and stunning scenery. We also went to 'the mint' for mikes birthday, where we saw liqid gold being poured which was an awesome sight - like liquid sunshine! We also went to a casino and pub for his birthday...and he got ID'd! So funny. In Perth we couch-surfed with a guy called Joe, who was awesome, and took us on a night roo safari!! We didnt see any tho, got very lost off road - but ended the night with a beer in our hands - so all good!!
After Perth we flew to Brisbane where we stayed with Nic, Tom and Lola, who were so lovely to us! Here we rushedly bought our van (Lola!) who, has had a few teething problems to say the least, and headed off to our first helpx (working for our keep) up in Hervey Bay.
Here we stayed with Catherine and her 2 boys, Alex 2 & Ben 10weeks - such a lovely family. We washed the outside of the house and varnished some uprights for Catherine, and also managed to scrub Lola clean and go whale watching - which was awesome - they were doing backflips 20m from the boat!! Having learnt we had blown a head gaskett, catherine's husband told us to fix it with black pepper (?!) but, well, it seems to be working!!
After Hervey Bay we had an epic 2 day drive thru the outback (sleeping in a truck stop and sneaking out at sunrise) pausing to have some of mikes gross 'coffee in a tube' for breakfast!! We were relieved to reach 'Corea Plains', we weren't sure Lola was gonna manage the 50k dirt track! The farm was so wonderfully remote, we saw tons of wild roos and emus on the drive in.
We loved our week on the cattle ranch, we herded cows, fed 'poddies' (orphaned calves), i whizzed around on a quad bike and mike got to drive the truck! We even got to brand a cow each! Being sat in the back of a ute with the sunrise beams coming thru the trees and dust kicking up behind you is one of those images that you'll never forget!! And it definitely was an unforgettable week.
Back in the real world we are now near Airlie Beach - clearing a field of trees n rocks - nd hopefully going to the Whitsundays day after tomorrow...if the dust storm passes!
So thats us! We are still having to bump start Lola everywhere (on the farm i was struggling to push it - yes, that is my new job! - so Jim bless him towed it with the quad bike!!!! Wish i got photo. But other than that all is good! We are heading up north next, have a couple of weeks to ourselves, living in Lola, so wish us luck!
Hope you are all well, lots of love xxxxxxxx
