Started the day with a visit to the Great Market - situated in a most amazing building which I hear is (one of) the most beautiful building housing a market. I stocked up on some goodies for my dinner and also hoping for leftovers for a picnic lunch on Monday on the train to Prague (not sure how much will be leftover). The peach was huge and absolutely delicious and the brie was very nice.
Then I jumped on the Hop on Hop off bus and did the whole circuit so that I can work out where I will go tomorrow. I did stop off at Keleti Station to buy my train ticket for Monday - leaving at 9.25am and arriving at 16.15 in Prague- weather forecast at this stage is for rain - what a pain! I was lucky to get a first class ticket for about $70 so it was worth the trip to the station.
I am very impressed with Budapest - somewhere inbetween Paris/Florence and something else, I guess it is that Eastern European thing that I am not familiar with.
Met up with Sofia last night for a late dinner and had to sample the local food which was very rich so took it easy today. Tomorrow is another day and I will definitely look for one of the famous coffee shops and indulge in a cake.
I asked Sofia why she loves Budapest and she says she will not go back to Australia and just loves it here despite the fact that there are no jobs. She loves having so much culture all around her. She lives in an apartment and has a lovely dog which she has to walk twice a day - must be very difficult in winter here when it gets well below zero. I asked her about the travertine tiled pavements and she said that the extent of corruption here is enormous and it was probably a case of some government official having an interest in a travertine business and placing a big order.
Decided to have an early night tonight as last night was a late one - need to make the most of tomorrow last day in Budapest - so much to see!
