Weather was on our side on Saturday and we took the day trip to the volcano which is directly opposite Thira on the main island. A cable car took us down to the Old Port (alternative was a donkey ride or hundreds of steps) and we boarded our sailing ship for the day. What a lovely way to spend a Thursday evening enjoying sunset with several glasses of red overlooking the volcano from a terrace in Oia. This adventure involved getting up at 6am in Kokkino Chorio in Crete and driving to Heraklion (2 hours) to catch the Fastcat to Santorini.
