Hopped on the bus to Toronto and guess what… Jane fell asleep again… don't know what is me and busses but the moment I find my seat and fall asleep so once in Toronto I was well rested and ready to go… dad however needed some coffee…. :-) Seriously, it was a good trip. Toronto is huge…. There are so many suburbs, when you think you are there then it's at least 2 more maybe 3 more hours to down town. It was a bit of a hassle to find a place to stay but we found a real upscale Airbnb.
Rosa and Rico picked us up the next day. Haven't seen them in 7 years but nothing has changed. Was great seeing them again and catching up. We went for coffee and cannoli's because they are Canadian Italian they knew just where to go. Never seen my dad as happy as when he got his coffee. After one month of going without actual coffee his first sip was just heavenly. Did I mention cannoli's? Why haven't I tasted that before? My goodness those are good. It's a pastry which come in all sorts of sizes. Now at least I know that when I pass an Italian bakery I just have to stop they are addictive.
We visited Casa Loma, which was build form 1911 to 1913. The guy who had it build was ahead of its time. It's just totally amazing what you see there. Because of WWI and the depression that followed he was bankrupted and had to sell the place. They only lived there for 10 years. In the end they turned it into a museum. If you want the whole story just check out Casa Loma on Wikipedia.
We were invited to lunch at Rosa's parents' house. They do live in Toronto but up north and they have a chicken farm. The lunch was delicious everything fresh and homemade. Rosa's dad actually left Italy around the age of 15 and went to Australia to work on the railway. After a few years he ended up in Canada with family and married her mom. He's an amazing man but so is her mom. She was born in the south of Italy and they are known for their excellent pastries….. well they are excellent. This lady should open her own shop. Goodness that woman can bake!
Rosa's and Rico's place is down the street and we had dinner there. Sam joined us with her children and a friend of Rosa's. Sam also worked with Rosa and me in Killarney though I worked at a different lodge we spend loads of time together down there. Just sitting down for a family dinner, making conversation, eating homemade food…. We just loved it. All in all we had the best day. Seeing them again meant so much to me and also introducing them to my dad so that he can get a taste of what I've been talking about all these years. Thanks for the hospitality guys, it was great seeing you again!
