We had Thursday afternoon back in Lima before our final evening out. The whole group went out a for a meal, which was really nice, but the service was awful...sooooo slow! By the time we had finished and paid it was 11pm! The majority of the group then went bowling, but Anne-Marie and I didn't fancy it so we went to a nearby bar with Renzo, our guide, and Ron, one of the dutch guys. They had a band on, who were clearly good as everyone seemed to love it and the whole place, except us, was singing along! At first I wasn't so keen on the place but it ended up being really good- after the band they played a mixture of music, including some salsa so I attempted some salsa dancing, ha ha! Some of the others joined us later and we stayed til it closed at 4am, when we went to another bar. Salsa music again, and our tour guide's friend, who'd come to join us too, tried to show me how to salsa. He was so patient, as I clearly was not very good! 5am came and the bar closed so five of us went by taxi to another bar, very random, and not much still open at that time on a Friday morning! Ha ha! We found one eventually, a real locals type place with only a few people left in it, and continued the salsa dancing...by this point I had probably marginally improved, and was starting to get the hang of it....a little bit anyway! :-) We got chucked out at 6am and got a taxi back to the hotel, I think we went to bed at 6.45am, unheard of for me! After such a late night there was no way Anne-Marie and I were checking out at midday so we kept the room on. It was a really good night though, really good fun! Once we were up and packed, we went for a late lunch then shopping at the market. I also bought some CDS of a band I heard in a clothes shop while Anne-Marie was buying some bargainous clothes! We ended up running out of time but had just enough time for last minute photo swapping and final packing- I just about managed to fit everything in!
Four of us went to the airport together, and I was the last to go at 12.20am. My flight to Atlanta took about 5 hours, I slept all the way more or less as I was so tired! On arrival at the airport i decided I could not face the 11 hour wait in the airport and could not be bothered to go into the city so I went to a hotel near the airport. I slept for about 4 hours then went for a late lunch. By the time I went back to the airport I didn't have too long to wait til my flight. The flight was fine, watched a few films, but didn't sleep at all, arrived back in Manchester at 8am on Sunday 30th.
The 6 weeks were over too quickly, but I feel like I was away for ages. I saw so many great places and met some lovely people.....I wish I didn't have to come home! What a fantastic trip! :-)
