We spent today in Cuenca and luckily it wasn't raining! I had been here before on my last trip (2 years ago) but I felt quite excited in the morning about going out and doing some sightseeing as it seems a while since I have done that! We wandered in the central area of Cuenca, near the cathedral with the blue domes. I like Cuenca because although it is a city, it is a small city and is a nice place to wander. Its historic centre is a Unesco World Heritage Centre. We went to the 'casa de la mujer' which is a building with lots of little craft stalls. I even managed to find a top which fitted me! We had lunch at a vegetarian restaurant as I wanted a lentil burger- don't find that kind of thing here often! Mum had the set lunch, the 'almuerzo', which was also good. Next we went to book a day trip to a local community and then walked along the river. We visited a small art museum which had a Christmas themed exhibition of lots of nativities from different places in Latin America- it was interesting how different they all were. After that we went to one of Cuenca's Panama hat places (the Panama hat comes from Ecuador not Panama!), then it was a bit of market shopping and back to the hostel.
