Day 5 Queenstown-Milford Sound-Queenstown
We left early again to do a 12 hour round trip to Milford Sound. Milford sound is heralded as being the must see attraction of NZ, famous for it's 3 day hike the Milford track. Unfortunately I didn't have time to do this and went on a trip that would get us back to Queenstown that night. We drove though some spectacular mountain scenary again, seeing avalanches happen before our eyes and the weather change in seconds! We arrived in Milford at 2 after having several stops and walks along the way. Milfors sound is obviously best seen on the water so we caught a boat trip through the sound seeing some magnificant waterfalls, seals and even some penguins! The weather deteriorated throughout our boat trip, which we were told was very common for Milford. However, I think this place would have been beautiful in any weather and the rain and the mist surrounding the mountains brought an intense atmosphere that made it easy to see why Lord of the Rings had been filmed so beautifully here. We got back to Quuenstown quite late that evening and went straight out as most of the people on the magic bus were leaving to carry on their trip to Dunedin, whereas I was staying for another 2 days. We went to a bar which served cocktails in teapots that you drink out of the spout, very funny and very english! So I said goodbye to the bus people, and hello to the girls I met skydiving in taupo, who were also in Queenstown for a couple of days. I spent the next 2 days sightseeing and checking out recommendations made to me by friends who had already visited Queenstown, including the gondola ride where I saw more stunning views!
