Ok - so its been quite a while since my last blog but I'll try and fill you in on stuff.
Christmas was ok but not great. Thailand is a buddhist country so they don't celebrate Christmas. As a result we were all working on Christmas day. At the private language school we had a big Christmas party, but as with most things in Thailand the end result was nothing like what you prepared for! Over 100 kids in a room with no air con and I was dressed as a Christmas Tree - fun but I would rather be sat with family eating turkey and watching Harry Potter!
My Christmas dinner consisted of pizza and wine then I went to a house party. That was good because everybody was feeling the same - missing family and friends back home.
New year was good. Went to Koh Samui on NYE then got a speedboat over to Koh Phagnan for the full moon party. It was my first full moon and I have been hearing all sorts of crazy stories about them but felt I had to go at least once as it was on my doorstep! Anyway I'd heard that they are packed and you can't take a bag or valuables because they get pick-pocketed etc. This is why I didn't have my phone so sorry if you didn't hear from me over new year!
After all the worry it wasn't half as bad as I expected. There was plenty of space to throw some shapes and yes there were plenty of bodies just passed out everywhere but I had a fab time and I'd deffo go again.
After new year I went to Chiya, a little temple village about 40 mins north of Surat. We took an overnight bag but had seen what was needed to be seen in about 2 hours so we decided to walk into the town. We were then told it was 8 miles away so we decided to wait for the bus that we were told goes every 20 minutes. We were seriously sat by the roadside for over an hour! It was then that we flagged down a passing van that turned out to be driven by a very kind policemanthat gave us a lift into town. Now I don't want to sound ungrateful to be seeing all these great places but I wouldn't recommend this place on a top ten of Thailand - we just got out of the van and then 10 minutes later got a minivan back out!
The last couple of days were spent in Khanom. This is a town on the coast about an hour east of Surat. It has beautiful beaches and is not touristy at all. Although I have heard that a Finnish travel company have just started package holidays here. This was a lovely relaxing end to the new year break. There are a few bars and cafes run by westerners that are friends with everyone so we all went to Karaoke and hired finos and drove to a waterfall for the afternoon!
