The first blog entry...yippeee! We are in an internet cafe not far from our hotel. It is after 3 in the afternoon on Thursday for you, but after 11 here. We had a loooooong trip here, though I can't complain because everything was almost on schedule and we did get our bags. We didn't sit together on the long flight, but Max sat next to an economics professor from Illinois State and had some quality conversations with him when they werent' sleeping. I, on the other hand, slept little to none. I sat next to Charlotte, a young college girl who had been to Montana visiting a family she had nannied for the year before.Â
We found our hotel...looks a little shady, but the room is clean and we will stay another night. We took a quick 8 hour nap all afternoon and evening, and we are ready to roll now! Or, get some bread, wine, and go back to bed. We met some college graduates from Lousiana who gave us their map and some other good advice. Such as, don't stay in Athens too long. With their advice and our own observations of the city, we will see a couple sites tomorrow and leave Saturday morning for ...well...we don't know yet. Maybe an island? Maybe north? Maybe west? We'll see.Â
It kind of reminds me of downtown Iowa City here, but dirtier. And many more men out that big groups of women. Not a ton of english speakers here. I'll try to upload pictures after I take some tomorrow. We had some yummy pork on a stick and bread. That was quality.  We'll head next to the nearby grocery vendor for wine and bread. Maybe some cheese, then retire to the roof of the hotel for a view of the acropolis. Keep checking back!
