Mon 19 Aug:
So, where do I start with todays adventure...
I again woke up really early, and knowing that everyone at home are up and about I wanted to talk to them, which meant that I couldn't get back to sleep after only a few hours sleep. So I decided that today was Brooklyn Bridge day. So I Googled the area and made my way to Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Before I even made it to the subway I had a guy ask if he can take me out for food.. having no sim card in your phone is an awesome way to get rid of them! (Just don't tell them that you have a US number!).
When arriving at Brooklyn Bridge Park (with my feet already in bits!) it was the best view that I have seen yet, of Wall Street and Manhattan. I got so many cool pictures! There was alot of padlocks along the fence, if I knew I would have took one with me.. if I have some spare time! :D
From here I went back into the town and had the BEST Subway lunch and tried teaching a toothless woman how to roll a cigarette... Then an old guy called Raymond started a conversation with me and ended up tagging along onto Brooklyn Bridge where I had a caricature picture done which is no way going to fit into my bag
From there I went on the subway to Grand Central Station, where a massive guy got on the subway with an eye-patch.. some one that you'd hate to bump into in an alley way. Anyway he stands there and starts singing at the top of his voice.. I didn't video because to be honest with you, I didn't want to spend any money! But the next lot of guys on the subway back were dancing and jumping around on the carriage, I gave them a dollar after recording them. I then relaxed at Prospect Park for a while; they have loads of free stuff going on through the summer so I thought I best check it out! I will be returning!
As I was going into the apartment I saw a neighbour (her name has escaped me). She told me I had a pretty face but that she was not gay haha! Then she gave me the mum talk about travelling and saying not to pick up any hobos, she asked what we call them in the UK.. I said "the guys that sit on the street begging? We call them tramps!" well.. she found that hilarious lol!
So I ended up walking miles and miles from around 9am to 6pm, I'm not sure how my cheap H&M shoes are still wearable! The insoles from the hospital have caused nothing but blisters and my back is killing me But I may only ever get this opportunity once, so I'm making the most of being out in New York, my feet and back have plenty of time to rest when I'm in bed.
BUT I managed to get chatting to a girl called Trinh who is from Texas and coming to New York next week, so hopefully we can do the evening things together like Times Square, Brooklyn Bridge and The Empire State Building (they all look awesome at night!). Then we can both stay at hers or whatever to save us both travelling home alone at night!
Also I have been in touch with a 23 year old woman called Susannah who I am hopefully going on a little road trip with, to either Long Island or CT.. Both look awesome! She seems like a really cool person and great company so it should keep me distracted while I'm feeling homesick.. the nights are the worst because everyone at home is asleep
Oh yeah I forgot to mention.. I tried a Butterfinger, YUM! and a peanut butter cookie in Subway. There is peanut butter things everywhere, I love it!!
Well i've been trying to fight going to sleep for 4 hours now.. I suppose I can try now.. night all Xxx
Money spent: $7: Water $1, Subway dancing tip $1, Subway lunch, drink and cookie $5
