So today was my first day on the mountain in a while. I've just got my board back from the shop, she's finally fixed!! Full tune-up, hot wax, topsheet repair and edges done. Good as new - for £20.. And the next day we get is a powder day! And Im off work! Couldn't have timed that better :D
The pictures just don't do these mountains justice. It's amazing. On a clear day with the sun beating down on your face (like on Christmas Day) its just breathtaking. Could think of some extra company that would be nice though ;) I'm just about getting my bearings around the mountains too. The apartment is in the best place, part way up Blackcomb Mountain, but still inbetween Blackcomb and Whistler! So in the morning I can board out of my door to the bottom of Whistler, head up top there and spend the morning in the sun on that side, get the Peak To Peak Gondola across to Blackcomb and spend the afternoon in the sun on there, then board right back into my block again at the end of the day. Couldn't ask for a better location. I also get to board to work in the morning. Lucky me ehh.
The nights out are always entertaining. I discovered a phenomenon call "Ski Shooters" which I am yet to take part in. Apparently a European tradition that has now extended to Canada! - hence shooters instead of shots. Holes are drilled along the length of skis to fit shot glasses into. Then the barstaff hold each end and you just need a willing line of people to get shots poured into their mouths - or nearabouts - at the same time. Messy! I'll let you know how that one goes! I got to spectate at the 2010 Beer Pong Olympics the other night. This meant everyone had an excuse to dress as brilliantly ridiculous as possible and engage in competative drinking games. It was amazing. In the end it was a close final between Ancient Egypt and Hawaii however the guys from Hawaii beat the girls by one cup. A tense final! And if you ask the girls they'll tell you they won! They have photographic proof.. :)
It was Jamie's 19th Birthday on Friday so we all went to The Cinnamon Bear in The Hilton for a lovely - suprisingly cheap - meal. It's lame that it takes someone to be celebrating birth for us to all get together for a nice meal - but I guess it means we can appreciate it more when it happens. We were also supposed to go Tubing finally but because of the heavy snowfall (yey!!) there was only one lane open (boooo) - and 26 of us!? So not really worth it. I will go before I leave, I can't not. Its the only reason I'm here!!
On Thursday 14th, Courtney, Kate and I got the #2 to Function Junction for the most random day ever. Ukranian Speed, rowdy cafes, re-using it, art galleries and train tracks. The purpose of the trip was to have a chat with Robin Dutcher Pryor, a tattoo artist in Whistler who I'm hoping will be able to do some of my work before we leave in May. She's drawing out an image for me and it should be ready around the beginning of Feb. I cant wait! if I dont have to make any changes then I should be inked shortly after! I'll b sure to keep FB posted.
Whilst we were at the Re-Use It Centre I picked up some cheap board games for the kids in the Den at work. I felt bad for the ones that were injured and had a choice of reading books with pages missing or colouring on brown paper to fill the time before being collected.. It was bordering on child cruelty! Hopefully they'll like this tiny addition. Maybe I'll collect a few more over the next couple of weeks for them...
"How was it Ukranian??..We were playing with French Cards. "
