Following a 36 hour journey which involved flying via San Paolo airport to Rio and then back to San Paolo airport to Foz (thanks STA!) I finally arrived in Iguassu. Foz is a little town with not much going on except the apparently spectacular waterfalls (didn't actually get to see them - will do when back in October!) After a serious lack of food since leaving the States made my first proper meal in Brazil a McDonalds!
The other volunteers were all really nice and I felt nicely at home until they pointed out they were all leaving on Thursday and the company told me no one else was coming. So despite enjoying the one day of teaching that I did I decided to go off travelling around South America with two of the volunteers which were finishing their placements - hence the travel blog!
I did have a few days in Foz which were fun. The kids were aged from 4 - 6 and were so sweet. They loved trying to learn English, but think they enjoyed the colouring more when they didn't have to try and understand the funny english people. We taught them the words for face, mouth, eyes etc - is hilarious the way they copy exactly what you say - i.e. Lisa pointing to her eyes and starting with 'these' promptly caused the whole class to point to their eyes calling them 'these' - ops!
I also popped to Paraguay for the day - you didn't miss out on much on that one. It was just a crazy dirty busy market town - and not in a good way! The best bit was the rather relaxed border control, we accidently walked out of the country and had to shimmy back across the border before anyone noticed. The bus was then stopped and customs people came on and took everyone with bags off the bus, which then drove off! Assume you have to wait for the next bus! Luckily we'd refrained from any shopping.
The best night was definately when we all headed out to a posh Brazilian steak restaurant where you fill your plate with buffet food and then once you start the Waiter keeps bringing you different types of steak! So much food! We then headed to Cuba Libra nightclub in Argentina - quite bizarre to head through passport control for a night out! The club was really cool with everyone doing Latin dance. Lisa dances at home and after a bit of a shimmy on the dance floor got dragged off by a slimy local - although was pretty cool as she was up on the main dance floor looking all cool! Safe to say after a few cocktails the rest of us showed them how it was really done!!
