We got a late start to the day after our evening out at the Moulin Rouge. By the time we left the apartment for the day we were hungry for lunch and needed to pick my new LV bag up at the Galleries store so we took the metro over and ate in the cafeteria. We had a lovely view of the Eiffel Tower while we are a delicious slice of pizza and a bowl of lettuce (apparently lettuce in a bowl is salad to the French).
After finishing up lunch we went down to the Louis Vuitton boutique and were quickly brought my monogrammed bag and were ushered on our way. No champagne for us again and "HM" was nowhere in sight so we were sad to go. After some deliberation we decided to metro over to the Montemarte area so we could visit the Sacre Couer cathedral. We happily bought more metro tickets and quickly hopped on the funicular to the top. The views of the city were quite spectacular and the cathedral itself was very beautiful. We ended up witnessing a processional of singing nuns and priests. We sat and listened to the singing for a bit before continuing to explore.
We decided to stroll around the Montemarte area for awhile and Suzi stumbled upon what I can only describe as a much more disheveled French style "Goodwill". Apparently these stores sell "designer" items from seasons before at a significant discount. They have giant bins of clothes around the store fronts and people congregate in front digging for treasure. Unfortunately we were both quite hungry, thirsty and in need of a break so we wandered off to have something to eat before returning to shop. When we finally made it back the stores were closing and Suzi missed out on French Goodwill. We then decided to hop a metro car back over to the Opera/Galleries area for dessert before making our way home.
We ended up stopping at Cafe de la Paix for a pastry and our first encounter of the trip with a rude Parisienne waiter.i don't know if it was our horrid pronunciations of the French language or Suzi ordering "tap water" to drink but he hated us. I ended up with an iced coffee after asking for a cafe latte and our pastry while good wasn't fabulous and coat 16 euros each. I guess that's what you get when you go to one of the most expensive cafes in the city (per our tour guide later in the evening).
We made it home and collected Nat in time to head out for a guided tour of the curry at night by car. Our driver was nice and we hopped into his old CV2 and away we went to drive the city. We had champagne as we rode along and he took us down back streets in various neighborhoods and we got to see streets of Paris we would probably have never known about as well as drive by sightings of some of the bigger sites. He was a history major and knew all kinds of things about the city and it was an enjoyable tour. He also taught us that while there are few public toilets when you need them (and I asked for one) you can pay .50 to a cafe and they will let you use their toilets! We then stopped by the Eiffel Tower for a night time photo and back home we were delivered. Another fun day in Paris for sure!
