Foster's Tour
Im getting too good at this updating lark, i bet you can hardly keep up.
Ok so 3pm the day b4 you set off to Fraiser, every one meets at the hostel bar for a meeting, there are about 45 people there and they split you up into 4 groups of 10 - 11. Then they tell you about the do's and dont's on Fraiser, such as Dont swim in the sea due to the Rip's, Stingers and ..... Sharks (there is a tiger shark breading ground at the top of the island and Fraiser is surrounded by them) i think they have to be the next scariest shark next to great white, i mean come on Tiger-Shark !! Tiger and a shark in one !! so any way, other dont's such as not to get salt water on the 4x4, dont camp in certain areas (due to noise and other such stuff i didnt listen to as still thinking about Tigersharks). And not to feed the dingos, call them over or leave food out at night (Big fines if you do)
Our group had a couple of late arrivers so we did our group shop at about 7pm ish. Every one put in $20 and $6 of that is for a meat package. A butcher comes and drops it off in the morning (its ALOT of meat) and with the rest we all go to the local Spar and absolutly fill a shopping trolly, with pasta, cerial, bread (6 loafs !), chrisp's and other junk. Then we order our group alcohol, for 2 nights and only 9 of us (one dropped out) we ordered 3 crates of beer and 10 liters of wine (5 white & 5 red) im going to be honest....it wasnt enough and we had to buy more later.
So the next day every one wakes up at 6:15 and starts to get ready, packing a small day bag with clothes for the 3 days and leaving the big bags in a shed. Then you have to inspect everything you are given and tick it off a list if its fine. this takes a while because yiou have to check all the cups, plates, cooking rings, un-roll all the tents, collect the meat and so on. Then when all the group apart from me and Thomas (Slovakian guy) check over the 4x4 for marks and to ensure every thing works, the others go back in the bar for a final briefing and check every one out of the hostel and pay bonds and such things.
So once every thing is done and checked all 4 vans set off to the ferry terminal......... the only problem is that our van makes a wrong turn almost straight away......dam navigator (ps im the navigator). I soon spotted my error (left and right still confuse me) and we set off to just catch the ferry, and i mean just !! once we were on all the other people spotted that we were still missing another van hahaha how we laughed, they had missed the ferry, gutted. Once on the island we set off to Lake Mckenzy (not spelt like that), this place is stunning, every one raves about it and for good reason. Most of us had a swim and started drinking (yes at 11am). Then all the van set off on their own driving around the Island (its a very big island made completely of sand and trees, which is why you have to be in 4x4 mode the whole time. the beach front is like a flat highway, but the jungle areas are tricky to drive on as the sand is soft and deep) we visited a few area's such as an old boat wreck and other lakes, and then found somewhere to camp. We spotted that we had camped just around a bush to another van of ours. It was the van that had missed the ferry. After cooking a nice meal of saussages and pasta we started the drinking and joined the other group (after an hour of ozzy rain) the other group were a top laugh and met some good friends inc liz (mad girl from ireland) Anabell (the smart ass Arsenal Fan haha joke) a sweet girl called Becka and a shocking girl called Christina !! haha only joking xx and plenty more. Including the other 3 vans there were at leat 80% irish, but they were all a good crac !! the night was spent trying to play drinking games but didnt get very far as we had Koreans, slovakians and other nationality's who didnt quite understand but they all gave it a good go bless em. A few of us stayed up quite late and were the last to go to bed. i had to share a tent with 2 english girls who were already in bed, so when i fell into my tent and started fumbling around for my sleeping bag i found that they had alreay un-rolled it for me... bless !!!
The next morning i woke up first with a stinking head (due to sleeping down hill....not the beer !) when Thomas woke up we discovered that we had left one of the eskeys (cool box's) out and the Dingios had run off with all our steaks, burgers and the rest of our saussages !!!! a few swear words came out of my mouth in quick sucsession. We had all been too drunk to remember that we had left it out and the blighters had come during the night and broke into the box...dam them, dam them all ! we found traces of the steak boxes leading into the tree's behind us. Once we had composed our self's we set of to indian head (the very top of the island) and sorry to say mum and Aj i drove. It was only because Thomas was our only driver and the other groups had at least 5 drivers. It was alot of fun to drive again and on the beach. After indian head we set off to find a camp site to wash our plates and have breakfast. after that we headed inland into the jungle, this was alot harder to drive on but fun all the same, after seeing more lakes and dunes, we found the other vans and agrred on a place to meet so we could all spend the last night together. Once we all arrived we set up our tents and then pulled our ground sheets together, placed our tube lights so we could all see, broke out the tunes and had a top night of drinking, listening to the irish sing, drink, more singing, drink, eating, drink ..... you get the idea. Again due to being kept up by christina and liz i was the last to go to bed. This time however the girls had not made a space for me, i fumbled around trying to find one, but getting frustrated i gave in and tried to get out but couldnt find the zip.... i was loosing my cool. eventually i got out and tried to sleep in the van, but it stank of moist rain (it rained that night for about an hour straight), it also stank of spilt beer. So i gave in on that idea, found my torch and looked in the tent to see if i could see a space only to find the two girls, sprawled in the tent like it was a 5 star hotel double bed !! no space for me, so i went to join Liz on the spare seat in their van. The most uncomfotable night ever !! officially !! any who, woke up early due to the rising sun burning my fragile face. Every one packed up and went their ways. It threw it doen all day on the last day but it just added to the fun and adventure. we later met at the ferry point to return to the main land. Once back a few of us had a sleep, some people left and we went out for a team meal to an all you can eat thai resturant.....world class i tell thee. After i had eaten i went for a quick nap b4 getting ready to go out. I found Anabell, Becka and Christina, we went to an Irish bar to meet liz and the rest. Then we headded back to the Thai resturant to find my group who i noticed had polished of 4 bottles of wine and were very merry. We later all spent the night in a night club, dancing away untill we were thrown out. The next morning i had a mid-day coach down to Brisbaine, so some of us went for breki and then i left. Will be meeting up with Chris, Christina and Anabell later in Sydney for a few days, and will no doubt see the irish again on my planned trip to Ireland.
So thats it for fraiser, had an awesome time and missed loads out due to not being bothered to write it all, hope every one's well.... see ya after xxx
