Hey,
Ok so new years.
As with Christmas I finished work at 4pm went straight to the airport and flew to Sydney. As I know where I was going no one was there to drunkenly meet me, but that didn’t change the fact that when I arrived at the hose in Bondi about 9 o’clock EVERYONE was drunk…. No wait Smashed/Ruined/Brutal or any other word you want to use that more than drunk.
Lee and Laura (friends we met in Cairns who are from Bristol) had arrived the previous day and was good to see them again. Not wanting to miss out on all the fun I joined in with the drinking (obviously didn’t want to be unsociable !!!) Oh and just to put your minds at rest I had a Big John’s pizza 15 mins after arriving !
We spent the rest of the night in the house drinking away, although I retired to the bed about 2am as I couldn’t catch up to the rest and had been at work all day. The next morning I (being the top friend that I am) made every one bacon and egg sandwiches. I ended up eating 4….. they were good what can I say ?!? I’m a growing lad.
The weather that day (you will be pleased to hear) was a bit S**t so we spent most of the day sat around watching the full 1st season of Scrubs. Later in the day I went into Bondi Junction to meet Ian, a friend from back home in England, we had a few drinks and arrange to meet for new years. When I left I headed down to Bondi beach where some of the others were having some thing to eat. They had been joined my Ollie and Flow, 2 Austrian guy’s they had met on their Fraser Island trip, both good guy’s. Oh and Flows last name was Beer !!! haaaha yep true story Flow Beer. ON the way back upto the house we stopped of at the pub and played some pool, then carried on back up to the house. We drank for a bit longer b4 a few of us headed down to the beach about 11pm, stopping off on the way at some giant child’s swing, which was A LOT of fun when drunk. But at the same time I was attacked by 102 Mosquitos. We laid on the beach for a while then headed back up home for more scrubs, drink and bed.
The next day was New Years Eve, as usual a slow start to the day with everyone suffering form the night b4. Every one started getting ready about 12 o’ Clock. Me and Robbie headed over to the bottle shop to buy as much alcohol as we could fit I a shopping trolley. We grabbed a trolley and parked it out side the walk in fridge to grab some crates of beer, Robbie put the first crate in then came back in side the fridge, just then I saw him dash out side… to where the trolley had been ! We had parked the trolley just on the edge of a ramp. I got out of the fridge in time to see Robbie a little red faced thanking a guy who was holding our trolley 30 centimetres from the shelf with the expensive wines stacked. That really would of cost us a fortune if that guy had not stopped the trolley. So we filled up, payed and went back to the house and started drinking, We finally got out at about 6pm (that’s the trouble with sharing a house with 7 girls)
We all took taxis into Sydney and went to a place called "The Rocks" which is an area by the foot of the harbour bridge with plenty of bars. The place was packet the street where just so full of people all drinking away. We walked to a pub called The Mercantile and stood out side with the rest of the crowed (check the pics). At 9pm they had the Family fire works so we all shuffled down to the bottom of the bridge, but we had a bad spot and could only see the fire works once they were well in the air.
When they had finished we headed back up to the pub. Finally about 11pm we headed back down to the bridge to get a good spot (future notice to any body planing to do the same….get there as soon as you wake up !!!) the place was PACKED !! Me and Maria made the biggest mistake of the night by deciding to queue up for a kabbab and chips, which not only took 30 mins, no lie, but also meant we lost……EVERYONE. We squeezed around for a bit and tried to call people but when ever we managed to talk to some one you couldn’t hear a think. Eventually we found Nicola and Olly who had also lost the rest so, Maria stayed with them while I tried to find the rest, when I had no success I went back to olly and Nicola but now Maria was missing, so the 3 of us headded to where we thought the rest were, at about 11:55 it was just the 3 of us in the worlds biggest crowd, until out of the blue came Lee and Laura and some more friends. So we all stood and watched the biggest fireworks display on earth. I cant over exaggerate how big they were. They went on for 20 mins non stop and they were every where you looked. They were coming off the bridge, the opera house, of building roofs, from the other side of the harbour……everywhere !
Once they had finished and people started moving out form the crowd appeared every one else who had been stood only a few meters away but because of the amount of people we couldn’t see them. So like a herd of cows we followed the people back into the city, but once again lost half the people we weer with. On the way home Me and Robbie decided to re-intact the streaking scene form Anchorman… but didn’t go the full monty (check the pics) the atmosphere was immense, I cant describe it. The whole city was buzzing. We were the first back to the house…and we ordered ……wait for it…. Big John’s Pizzas and waited for the rest. The rest came back over the next few hours, and eventually we all past out.
The next day was spent eating Pie’s and watching dvd’s….all day !!! as with Christmas I flew back to work the next morning, although feeling a little better then when I had done the same at Christmas.
So that was my new years. I recommend Sydney to anyone and every one for New Years. Times Square next year ?!?!?
Hope your all well.
Keep in touch
