Arrived off the bus jut past 6 am. Saw my first crash in Vietnam from the bus!! Two scooters destroyed on the floor and 10 people crowded around.
Got into a taxi with an Irish girl called Tess. Got to ihome (hostel), really nice, and chilled in the rooftop area before breakfast. Had breakfast of a fried egg and met Kate (from Bristol). Was keen to get back on a bike for the day, so rented one (Tess and Kate rented bicycles) and arranged to meet on the beach. The bike had one fatal flaw, honestly the worst thing that can happen in this country: the horn didn't work! Went and filled up with sophie, it took ages to find the petrol station! Then went to the beach.
Couldn't see the girls and after 30mins walking along a hot beach I was getting frustrated. Sophie ended up paying for a lounger by a pool and remained there for the rest of the day for the Internet (addict!!). I went for a swim in the sea for a bit.
I felt I had to get full use out of the full tank (and the crippling cost... Ohh almost £3!!). So went for an explore on my own. I had a fantastic time driving through the chaotic streets of nha trang. Ended up driving through a tightly packed market (then fled, it was crazy!), and into a dense housing area (slum not quite right word, but you get the idea).
Then explored out of nha trang and followed the coast for a little way, some very strange stuff, entire areas with beautifully laid out streets and manicured hedges, but no buildings, only scrubland between the roads. The only inhabitants were the odd Vietnamese group burning stuff an families of goats! Continued the explore past reasonably empty resorts (off season?), then turned back to meet sophie for lunch.
After lunch I headed back out and re-explored the market on foot (much better) and sussed out the cable car that will hopefully take us to the waterpark tomorrow. Pottered around some more on the bike just taking it all in, it's such a great way to travel around here, you can go a slow or fast as you like and no one is hassling you from shops or for taxis. When I got bored of that I went back to the beach an settled in the sun for a read and a swim.
Looked for sophie, but she'd gone from her spot so headed back hoping she'd be in the hostel. Bumped into Tess an Kate on the way back. Got into the hostel, no sophie, about to go searching when she walked through the door.
Settled into our room and two Scottish lads showed up, (Sean and Blair (I think)). Plan to have a few drinks on the roof bar here and gather willing people, then head out for a night out.
Had a great night, played some drinking games an beer pong, finished with a few buckets. Unfortunately was robbed on the way home but only for 250000 (£7) so not the end of the world.
